Ivy Tech Thread

Published

I beefed up my summer course load and plan to take MAT 118, COM 102, and IVY 104, all online. Anyone else taking these?

Are you already in the NS? at the Info Session this week that they were no longer going to accept MAT 111 as a coreq, just 118, 117, or 136. They said they would "Grandfather" in some students but she wasn't sure of the details yet. I just thought I'd pass that along.

I attended the Indianapolis Spring info session. In addition to the above quote, they said the Indpls PT RN program was a "trial-run" and has not been 'officially' adopted by Ivy Tech. They ran into quite a few unforseen complications & needed to iron out some kinks before they even considered offering it again. I must say, I was totally disappointed. As a working adult (in today's economy), I need my FT income. I, nor my household, can afford me quiting to attend nursing school FT. I just moved here from TN which offered numerous PT nursing programs but I've found them to be non-existent in Indy. Does anyone know of ANY part-time AND reputable nursing programs in or around Indy? At this point I'll even consider a LPN program, if I can go evenings & weekends. Thx in advance for any info/suggestions y'all can offer!

Welcome to IN....we are headed to TN soon!

Try one of the MedTech colleges, I believe they have PT programs. I will caution you, they are quite expensive.

I worked full time and did NS full time just for the reason you said. It was a struggle, and given the choice I would liked to have not worked FT, but it just wasn't doable. Thankfully, my employer was very flexible for me.

Hope this helps...Good Luck!

The program gets more and more disorganized every year. For those of you who think dealing with financial aid is going to be the worst-you ain't seen nothing yet!

LoriRN2B, thanks for the well-wishes & the info! By the way, what part of TN are you heading to? (I used to live and/or work in Murfreesboro, Nashville & Memphis.)

Although MedTech is quite expensive, would you agree/dispute that they have a reputable program that truly prepares you for the working world? I'm also curious: How in the world did you attend school & work FT? I mean, what was your typical schedule? Was it a LPN or RN program? Is it one you'd recommend (Sorry for the thousand-and-one questions but I'm really trying to pick the brains of my fellow trail-blazers to see what worked & didn't work so that I may devise an efficient/effective plan for myself.)

Surely they will not drop us from classes if they arent paid for on time. Especially if they know we have applied for a loan.

They may try to charge a late fee. LOL.

I had taken out a student loan for summer (had 2 classes). The 112 class I was enrolled in was a bit much for the summer, especially since I would be gone for one week. That would mean a seven week class. Dummy me, I should have known(but didnt). Dropped the 112, got a notice from SallieMae saying my loan had been cancelled. Went into the bursar's said I needed to find out how much I owe, etc etc...She informed me that there would be a late charge due to my fees not being paid for on time. Mind you I hadnt even gotten a notice from them that my loan was cancelled, a bill or anything.

So much of every task that must be completed at Ivy T brings great aggravation.

What campus do you attend Rock?

I go to Muncie. I'm getting really aggravated and want to go to someone above this woman at financial aid. I just don't know who to go to. It's getting ridiculous. Normally, a few weeks before the start of the semester, the book store is completely full of people. I went in last week and there was not one person there and the shelves were overflowing with books. I don't know what they expect us to do.

Okay.. I just called Ivy Tech and am editing my post. They said my loan has been processed and I just need to watch Campus Connect. I'll get something for loan counseling that I have to complete. My lender will then determine the amount I get and an award notice will be sent out that I need to accept/decline. I've never had to do any type of loan counseling before. I asked how long that takes it and she said she had no idea. Does anyone know how this works?

the loan counseling survey thingie is an absolute embarassment to anyone above the age of 7!!! It basically tells you that you have to repay the loan and blah blah blah. Just know that after that is done (you do it from campus connect/fall 2008/financial aid) then a few days/weeks later, you will have to go back to the same place and "accept to use the financial aid" that is what gets you in the bookstore system. GOOD LUCK, you'll need it! (btw...you use your sallie mae/open net name and password to do the counseling)

:hngon:

FINALLY I can order my distance ed books, however my online class based in Lawrenceburg still hasn't posted yet! I need that book!

I was looking at my schedule and my ANP teacher changed, weird. It was Stephen Noe, and now it is James Evans. Anyone had him?

So will they send me an email for the loan counseling? The lady told me just to check Campus Connect which really doesn't tell me much. I went to student services > financial aid > student requirements and it says my FAFSA and Pending Loan Application are satisfied. Whereas, yesterday my loan application was unsatisfied.

I would check in student services but also check your campus connect email. I have had emails come through there before telling me to go approve my aid, etc.

kgle......you are soooo lucky!!!! Love Mr. Evans, really! :heartbeat:redpinkhe:heartbeat He explains well, has a very 'cute' sense of humor, and is a bit of a stickler when it comes to noises, leaving early, etc. (which is really nice) He's just all around great, my favorite teacher EVER! :p

Hi all!!! I was just going over all the stuff Ive had to get to prepare for classes and was alittle shocked at how much I have spent already!!! heres alittle breakdown:

Stethoscope $50

B/P Cuff $25

Uniforms $80

CPR course $40

1st criminal history (that is useless now) 16.95

Criminal history and drug ck $77

watch(have never worn one) $25

Shoes (white) $40

physical and shots $150

Also had to buy a new computer(I wont even tell you how much that was)

has everyone else also had to put out this much money? Well, I guess it will definately be worth it in the long run, but Im really broke now!!:nurse::nurse:

I've spent a ton of money already too. Shoes, stethoscope, penlight and scissors, uniforms, background check, and all the other stuff I'd had to get. I've sold furniture, old textbooks, and anything else I can part with just to survive until my financial aid refund comes. Which will probably be the day after never if it's left up to Ivy Tech.
