Ivy Tech Thread

Published

I beefed up my summer course load and plan to take MAT 118, COM 102, and IVY 104, all online. Anyone else taking these?

Does anyone know when we can get our books if using financial aid? The bookstore at IT told me we could not get them yet. It would be posted statewide when we could. The online bookstore says the 11th. Is this the same for campus bookstores?

Man it would be nice if its the 11th. I would like for everything to be taken care of soon! I still haven't been able to accept my loans yet though...

lawrence has the books in, i got mine on thursday (with my financial aid!!! :p ) thank goodness... bring a crane! lol. there are 4 books you need to get that are not in the box! the 2 study guides, a red book and a lime-green book (sorry, im too lazy right now to go look at the names of them) been a loooonnnnngggg day! :banghead:

Is it a reeeeeeally big box? If so, I may have to park illegally at the curb to go get them tomorrow. LOL

Can I ask you girls how many times you had to apply to get into the ASN program? I just bought my ANP books from a girl who went to Ivy Tech and was very discouraging saying only one girl out of her study group got in when she applied etc etc, and now she is at IBC (Which I really don't want to go to). Just curious!

Speaking only for myself, I just applied the one time and got accepted for this fall at Indy. I had A's already in English, Psych and ANP 101 before I decided to go into nursing. I knew how competitive it is, so I made sure I got an A in ANP 102 and did well on my TEAS test. I'm not real sure what the cut-off was for Indy as far as scores go, but I do know that it is harder to get in there than the other campuses just because of the number of applicants.

If you want to get in at Indy, just make sure you have A's in the classes they count. If you have a B in one of the classes, make sure you score very well on the TEAS...95 or above.

Also remember that you can apply for the LPN if you don't make the RN group the first time. If a spot becomes available in the RN program, they will let people switch programs. I'm not real sure on the details and how all that works, but it's a good plan B.

Try not to put too much stock into other people's horror stories and reasons why they didn't get in. If you want it, just go get it for yourself. Even if it takes a time or two before you get accepted, it's still worth it in the end.

Yeah, I hate how others can be so discouraging. I was thinking about applying to the IU school of Nursing at IUPUI...but OMG their credit hours are around $400! Plus they don't offer ASN anymore.

So far I have an A in Psych, and an A in Math...but Math doesn't count. I am going to try my damnedest to get all A's, but I wish I could apply to another campus but they are all so far away! I knew about the LPN option, so I am most definitely going to apply for both programs just in case!

Ivy Tech was really my only option because of the cost and even their costs are much higher now than when I first started. I changed my major like 5 times and when I first got started, it was like 64/credit. Now it's 90 something. Still much cheaper than the other schools though.

That's why the competition is so stiff. You just can't beat the price.

Just take it one class at a time and block out all the negative energy from other people. Focus on getting those A's and then you have a little breathing room.

Also, I'm not sure what part of town you live on, but I am on the south side and Columbus really isn't that much farther than Lawrence. When you factor in rush hour traffic, it might even be faster.

I only applied once to get in. I made sure all pre-reqs were done and retook ANP101 over to get an A before applying.

I just applied once to both campus' in my area. I got in with a 90 on my teas and 3 A's and 1 B(hate english). (203 pts). Out of my study group 3 of us got in to the ASN program, 1 into the transitional lpn to rn program. And we had one girl who has a very hard time passing tests, she gets all A's in her classes but still needs to take the teas again. Shes doing tutoring. My point is; As long as you have the grades and do the work you should be fine.

I applied only once too.

I made sure I had A's on the pre reqs. I didn't do as well as some on my TEAS, but it was one of the higher scores for my area (87).

IIt helps to apply to as many programs as you possibly can too.

I think you will do great, don't listen to the negative stuff. My ANP class was notorious for negative gossip.

Lastly, don't stress it. This is easy for me to say now because when I was waiting I was going crazy.

But, I did get to the point where I could see that even if I didn't get in this time. Or I had to take an alternate route, I was going to be a nurse. I focused on that and it got me through.
