Ivy Tech Spring 2011 Applicants

U.S.A. Indiana

Hey, just seeing who's on here that will be applying with me. I'm applying to Muncie, Kokomo, and Ft. Wayne. I feel like this is all I think about already. I'm retaking a couple of pre reqs this summer to improve my score. I've already taken the teas but will probably retake it as I only received an 83. I've also attended all the nursing info sessions. What is everybody else doing to prepare? I'm so paranoid about forgetting something! I'm looking forward to talking with people in the same boat. Or if anyone who has already applied wants to share advice, I'd gladly listen!

So what is everyone taking this summer? I thought my financial aid was not going to go through due to some stuff from 2005 but I think if I will actually be ok!

Anyway I am only taking 2 classes this summer... APHY 102 (I know WHAT AM I THINKING?!) and COMM 102, which shouldn't be too bad I hope, if so maybe I should take SOC 111?? Any opinions on which would be better for a summer with APHY 102?

Emmi7,

A&P 2 is hard enough and being in the summer will be a challenge, but you can do it! I would probably stick to COMM 102 because it basically just writing. Sociology is not hard but you have to read a lot and take tests. I just finished A&P 2 with a writing class and it was not that bad. Good Luck!

Emmi I give you the same advice. If you are taking aphy 102 in the summer, then stick with Com 102 to go with it if you have to take something else. Com 102 has papers but they are easier/less brain power involved to do them LOL.

Ok thanks MarcyP and CSAB...I have to have minimum 6 credit hours for financial aid and I've already taken MATH 118 this semester but I really should've saved that for summer. So I have the other Psych co req, Soc, and then Science and I know better than to do the science lol!

Hey guys! I am actually applying to the Lafayette campus. I don't have many of the prereq's because I have already gotten a BA from a school in IL. I start my prereq's this month and will be working very hard to get them done by the 2011 start date. Anyone have any ideas how the point system works?

I will also be applying for the 2011 May class of accelerated program at Purdue for people with a bacchelors already. Any advice? Anyone looking at applying at the same place.

hey ben, I'm at Lafayette too!

Points system is:

30 points for an A

20 points for a B

10 points for a C

Teas Score points (out of 100)

Region points (if you live in you get 3 extra points)

Total of 223.

The classes you take are:

APHY 101: Anatomy and Physiology 1

APHY 102: Anatomy and Physiology 2

PSY 101: Psychology

ENGL 111: English

I don't know much about the accelerated program, but I went to Purdue for a year and it's a great school! I wish you luck!

I will be applying to the Bloomington program. I will be applying to both the LPN and RN programs in Spring 2011. I already have a Bachelors degree, but my math class won't transfer to Ivy Tech & I have zero science classes.

Prior to applying in the Spring, I will be re-taking my English class (I got a B in it 5 years ago, but I know that I EASILY get an A now). I will also be attending the nursing sessions and taking the TEAS. I have to take both anatomys. I will also be taking the compass to hopefully place into the Math 13X. Since I do not have a science background, I would have to take 2 science classes before applying for the RN. So, right now I am focusing on making sure I have A's in the 4 courses, and making LPN my primary focus. With the LPN, I can work full time to finish the RN. This is especially important since I do not have enough pre-reqs to go full time and defer my loans from my Bachelors, and I have a child to support as well.

Anyone else applying to Bloomington?

With my Bachelors in Sociology, I would recommend taking SOC 111. The information is not too complicated and it is very interesting, and applicable to daily life and what is going on around you. COMM 102 is also fine. I took my COMM at a different school and there were no papers or anything.. just speeches. If you are interested in taking online classes, I would check to see if SOC 111 is offered. I took 13+ classes online and loved them. Personally. I think they are a little easier since you don't have to spend the time actually attending a class.

I would definitely suggest that you stick with Comm with A&P! Good luck, Emmi!

I will be applying to Bloomington as well, but for Spring 2011 they only take 10 RN. So I will also apply to Indy, Columbus, Valpo, and Gary. I will go where ever I get in. I would love to get into Bloomington tho because I went to IU and own a house down there. Time will tell I guess. I took both of my A&Ps online and was able to get As in both, but definitely a lot of work! I had an awesome teacher! I just need to retake my TEAS to raise my grade. Good Luck to all!

Was your online class through a teacher at Bloomington or elsewhere? Do you mind sharing their name? Would you suggest Anatomy online? I have taken MANY online classes & actually prefer them.. but wasn't sure how easy it is to do with Anatomy. I know someone else who took it online also and says they liked it.

Hi! I loved my online anatomy because I work full-time and could not go to classes. My teacher was actually out of Gary. K. Dunbar..awesome professor! Online is difficult because you do not have someone telling you what and when to study. But regardless, anatomy is a hard class. If you can make the time to study, then I say do it. The hardest part are the proctor tests, but if you study and go over the practice quizzes then you will be fine.
