Ivy Tech Spring 2011 Applicants

U.S.A. Indiana

Hey, just seeing who's on here that will be applying with me. I'm applying to Muncie, Kokomo, and Ft. Wayne. I feel like this is all I think about already. I'm retaking a couple of pre reqs this summer to improve my score. I've already taken the teas but will probably retake it as I only received an 83. I've also attended all the nursing info sessions. What is everybody else doing to prepare? I'm so paranoid about forgetting something! I'm looking forward to talking with people in the same boat. Or if anyone who has already applied wants to share advice, I'd gladly listen!

Hi! I'm applying to Marion and Fort Wayne for Spring 11'. Does anyone have an idea of what a "good" score is for those specific campuses? I'm attending IPFW and applying for their BSN program as well. I scored an 86 on the TEAS, but am retaking it as I misread some of the directions for the English section, and know I can get at least a 90 on it. I would appreciate any suggestions :) Good luck to all those applying!

Marion only offers transition if you're already an lpn. For that region, you'd have to go to Muncie or Anderson for rn or lpn. I just attended the ft wayne info session and it just depends. Somewhere around 200 was the cut off for rn and 180-190 for lpn. It could be higher or lower though depending on the applicants. Btw, Muncie and Anderson only offer lpn for the spring. Hope that helps!

If your campus does summer nursing classes for ASN, then you could start Jan 2011 and finish August 2012. I started Indy ASN in Jan 2010 and will be done in Aug 2011 because I'm doing a class both summers.

Hey guys..thought I'd join you. I was planning on applying this Fall but I have to start my entire curricumlum over. I am a LPN but haven't practiced for over 10 years. I got a divorce, bought a farm and hung out w/my kids. Once they were grown I decided to return to nursing. However, you can't just "return". Ok I thought, I'll have to take some clinicals over and move on. Wrong! I have to start the entire process over again. My degree is just garbage. I am a little discouraged but everything is for a reason. I miss nursing and Im ready to get back to the trenches. (yes it'll be "the treches"). If anyone has any questions about what to expect, feel free to e-mail me. Unfortunately technology may have changed but the politics have not.

I have a short question, has anyone taken com102?? I am working on my final application paper and I'm having a hard time understanding what is expected. It's due tomorrow and all I have is a back-up essay I wrote for another class that I never turned in. ouch!!! Any suggestions would be super. I am taking it online...

@yauzen...i took comm 102 last semester...remind me again on what the paper is about and I might be able to help you.

Hey yauzen. Man that really sucks your degree is out the window. I guess I understand times have changed but our bodies work the same, right? I took that class 6 years ago and honestly don't remember a thing. Hope you got it figured out!

thanks here are the instructions. Honestly I've just been working on a "what is" and "why" format.

Final Application Assignment

Pro-Active Reading Assignment*

For this assignment you will need your textbook. The use of additional reference sources is NOT required, but may earn you extra credit. If you use additional reference sources, be sure to cite your sources using parenthetical citations. With or without academic sources your paper should be formatted in the APA or MLA style. Your instructor may tell you to use one or the other. Your paper must include a title page. It must double-spaced and typed in 12pt Times New Roman font.

This paper is worth 150 points and it will be graded according to the rubric in the syllabus.

Assignment:

1. Read the foreword, preface, and introduction of the book. Read the author's/editor's orientation to the book.

2. Turn to the table of contents and see how the author has organized the information into parts, chapter, or other sub-sections. You may look at individual chapters to see how the author has organized each chapter.

3. Leaf through the book, rapidly scanning or reading the occasional paragraph or heading that interest you. Try to get a feel of the book.

4. Put the book down and write five questions concerning matters you have become curious about as a result of this preliminary examination.

5. Next, review your first question and find in it a key word or phrase that you think might be in the index. Go to the index and look for the key word; if you draw a blank, try to come up with a synonym. If the synonym is not there, see if the table of contents leads you to where the question can be answered.

6. Now turn to that part of the book that deals with your question and look for the answer. If the author refers to materials in other parts of the book, follow the leads until you have enough information relevant to your question.

7. Use the same procedure with your other questions.

8. Each of your answers must be at least 250 words (a minimum of 1250 words for the paper).

Here is the abstract from the paper I've got so far, however I fear it's not what he is looking for..

Abstract

This paper examines what motivates people to communicate with one another, the different ways they communicate, and what obstacles they face. It looks at face-to-face communication and how, with developments in technology including the telephone, fax, internet, and email, has minimized face-to-face interactions. It discusses how interpersonal communication has many functions such as to learn, influence, support and define who we are. It also looks at different theories including the uncertainty reduction theory, and social exchange theory.

I really appreciate you taking the time to help me out!!!

It sounds like you're doing great (by your abstract)...that's pretty much what I did. Just thought of the most important themes in the book and what questions were most central. It sounds like you did that. Mine was very similar to yours, and I think I got an A on it, so you should be good.

I was going to look for my old paper, but I can't find it anywhere...I think I must have deleted it! Sorry I couldn't help more :(!

Good luck on your paper though! If I find my paper I might be of more help :)

great thank you. I was feeling extemely insecure about that paper. As soon as I read your post I turned it in. I thought he may have been looking for something else.

Hello Everyone! I will also be apply for RN or LPN for Spring 2011. I also applied for LPN this Fall, but I think I would rather retake my TEAS and apply for RN. I will be applying to Indy, Columbus, Gary, Bloomington, Valpo..so I better get into one of these! I am very excited for the future and a career in nursing. I am a graduate of IU with a BA and MS, but recently discovered my passion to purse nursing. I just finished Anatomy 102 online and am so glad to be done with those classes! Good Luck to everyone!

:)

hey gal what is your bs in? I am strongly considering biology as a 4-year w/nursing..

I have a degree in Psychology/Sociology and a MS in Applied Health Science. So RN will work well with my MS degree. I'm so excited about actually getting into the program. Biology..good luck! I loved social sciences and just started normal sciences with Anatomy and Chemistry this Fall.
