This is the "Not In" thread, or for anyone that's planning on applying for Spring Semester by the Sept 1st deadline.

We need love too! :loveya:

My Boring Stats:

A's in prereq's except ANP 2...taking that class now.

Horribly embarrassing TEAS at 76, still have two more tries. (Which is why I'm taking math and phys sci this summer. lol)

Hope to get into the Bloomington or Terre Haute programs. (Yay! Greene county gets region pts at both. lol)

Currently frazzling myself out with 5 online classes

Have a great 1.5-2 years, its a wild ride :uhoh3:, but it will be over before you know it!

Cheers!

Book bundles are in at Lawrence campus. Got my book bundle... so heavy that I couldn't lift to my car. All books on our blue list were in there with exception of the last 2 listed that are to be bought separately. There were a few updated versions in the bundle:

Nursing 2008 drug handbook 30th ed.

Focus on Pharmacology 5th edition

Med Surg vol I 12th edition

Med Surg vol II 12th edition

Hope this helps some of you that were wandering which books were updated in the bundle.

Csab-- the Sparks and Taylor ref. manual 7th ed. was also in our bundle and I thought she said it wasn't gonna be because it was to be replaced with another book. ??? Just an FYI, in case you don't have it. Maybe we'll find out about this at orientation.

Thanks Karen. Those are the ones I figured would be the newest editions. Hmmm I wonder about the Sparks and Taylor one. The Mosby's Diagnostic and Lab Test Reference (one at the bottom that has to be bought separately) also has a newer 9th edition out. So how much did the bundle cost?

Chris,

The bundle was way more than they told us.... $730.00 plus cost of the other 2 books put me at around 855.00 for my book cost. Wowza's.... that's a lot for books! Although one girl I know from Columbus campus spent 2,000 on hers the first semester of nursing last semester. I can't believe orientation is just next week...anyone getting nervous?

Holy cow. I don't have financial aid to use at the bookstore so that's why I bought all mine a la carte from ebay/amazon/girl in my aphy 201 class/walmart.com. All the books I got are new/like new except for the dosage calc book which is in good used condition. I have paid $318.12 out of pocket for books so far, except I didn't have to buy a medical dictionary (already had one) and I didn't buy the Sparks & Taylor diagnosis ref. manual since they said it wouldn't be in there. I will wait to find out about that one. I have everything else though, including an optional study guide for the Fundamentals book. Since I was buying mostly online, I was able to use money from my Paypal account that I made from selling other textbooks to pay for some of the nursing books. I got the set of CD-ROMs for free from my neighbor. So I've been lucky in the book purchasing department!

I'm not getting nervous about orientation, but a little nervous just about starting the program in general! I keep thinking that I should start reading the fundamentals and/or dosage calc books to get ahead, but I haven't been that motivated to do it at all!

Chris,

Yeah, i keep saying to myself break open that dosage calc book and get started, but so...not done it yet. I'm trying to enjoy this time w/ my family while they have my full attention before it gets crazy. I'm looking forward to orientation, but a little scared of starting actual program cause I know it's gonna be challenging juggling motherhood and so many classes at once. I've haven't taken this many credit hrs. since I was 19 which was without kids and no responsibilities so I've already warned my husband that I'll most likely have a crying breakdown in the beginning from being a little overwhelmed with everything, but hopefully once in the swing of things everything will click and be just fine.

Tic toc, it's about time to get busy with it. I just wish someone would be honest about how much time this program is going to consume from us. Going to school 4 days a week with two long days is going to be plenty. Then they advise that for every hour your in class, you dedicate three hours for studying. It's approx 14 hrs of school. So 14x3=42 outside plus 15 inside =57 hours of school dedication in one week. Plus it takes me 45 min to get to and from school. Crap that's 6 hours a week driving time. Well that sums up 64 hours a week of my life, how about you guys. Ok on a different note. If you want to see how horrible you can look, just put on your complete nursing uniform and then put your lovely lab coat on over it. Why in the world can't we just wear normal green scrub tops, instead of these ugly choking collar tops. I sported the look for my husband and kids, and they couldn't stop laughing. I'ts not fair.......:D

LOL about the uniforms. I did not buy a lab coat as of yet, maybe I'll buy one after classes start. I wonder about buying pants from Scrubs & Beyond. Someone already in the program (jksmom?) posted a few days ago that she got hers there and they work fine (i.e. color, style). I wonder if those are not as long as the unisex ones at the bookstore, so I wouldn't have to have them shortened. The ones from the bookstore are about 5" too long for me and I'm almost 5'7" tall. Sheesh.

I'm sure we will all be very busy with classes and studying. My neighbor, who graduated a year ago from Ivy Tech Indy, told me that we will all become regulars at Panera and Starbucks near campus where we will all go to sit and study (and sip coffee/hot chocolate LOL).

I am 5'7" tall and I had to buy the "short" sizes. I like the pull-ons much better than the drawstring. FYI, I used my lab coat at the beginning of the semester, but then decided that it was too hot to wear during lab time, so after about the 3rd week I didn't wear it to labs. I did use it for days when we were doing presentations in class, however.

So Jsksmon, buying the 'short' size at Scrubs & Beyond worked for you? You didn't have to shorten them any further? That's what I want, just scrub pants I can buy and wear without having to have shortened at all. Do you know the color name for the green pants? I was looking at Landau scrubs online since that is the brand name of the ones in the bookstore, and it looked like "Mallard" might be the right color.
