Ivy Tech Spring '10 Applicants

U.S.A. Indiana

Published

This is the "Not In" thread, or for anyone that's planning on applying for Spring Semester by the Sept 1st deadline.

We need love too! :loveya:

My Boring Stats:

A's in prereq's except ANP 2...taking that class now.

Horribly embarrassing TEAS at 76, still have two more tries. (Which is why I'm taking math and phys sci this summer. lol)

Hope to get into the Bloomington or Terre Haute programs. (Yay! Greene county gets region pts at both. lol)

Currently frazzling myself out with 5 online classes

It's nice to meet you....whoever you are....

I didn't have to shorten them. I'm sorry I don't remember what color they were. They are little off from the scrubs that I got from the Uniform House (which is where we had to buy ours last year), but not enough that anyone noticed.

Leen7777,

LOL!! about the uniform....so right there with you. My husband came home when I was trying it all on and laughed until he about cried. Then my fashionista 8yr old daughter said, "Wow, that top is really ugly mommy" :crying2: I feel your pain! I agree, the green scrub tops would look nicer and more comfortable for sure. I haven't gotten a lab coat just yet. Waiting to see if I really will use one or not.

Hey Leen! I was just reading your post about Darlene McAdams's CPR training. I am supposed to be in her class tomorrow and am now panicking because I have lost the sheet telling me where to go. Do you remember where the class is held?

Thanks in advance for any help! (I tried to send this as a private message but couldn't figure out how. Sorry!)

I hate to break it to you, but you will spend at least that amount of time for school and studying. I can't stress enough that it is important not to get behind in your studying and readings. Time management is essential! There is a lot of required reading from the very 1st day and it is very overwhelming. I suggest that you get a calendar book and write all the assignments and test dates down when you get your syllabus, to keep you on track. Luckily, you start off with Fundamentals of Nursing, and common sense will help you, once you get the basics down.

Try to keep up with memorizing the drugs in Pharmacology as you go, so that you are not overwhelmed when it comes time for the tests. It's important to know all the side effects for the drugs that you are required to know, so there is a lot of information to memorize.

On the positive side, you have finally made it into the nursing program! This is what you have been working towards. All of the knowledge that you now obtain is important and pertinent. Keep that in mind as you delve into your assignments. You know that you can do it, since you had to excel in the prerequisites, just to get in. Stay positive and confident!

As for the lab coats, you really don't need them. Most of the people in my class did not buy them. I only bought one because I am such a klutz and it protected my shirt. :) Tide sticks were an essential for me. Good luck to everyone!

When I took her class in the summer, it was in the building at the NE corner of 59th St. and Lee Road, right by Ivy Tech. I think it's called the Public Safety building. It's probably still the same, but not sure.

Thank you immensely. I haven't been on this site in months, but I've been browsing for a while now. There is a lot of valuable information on here!

Thanks again for being a lifesaver.

Right on the corner of Lee Rd and 59th street, you will see the fire department on the North side of the road, park on the east side of the building. I hope that makes sense, but don't worry about it too much, you'll see everyone else waiting.

Jsksmon--do you remember if the all day 8-5 orientation right before classes start really takes all the way to 5pm? At our first orientation it was supposed to be 9-12 but it was done by around 11 I think. Just wondering if the all day one goes that long or if we might be done before 5.

csab, I think it went up to about 4:00, maybe a little later, but not all the way up to 5:00. I would still plan on it going to 5:00, though, because they might be running behind. The day did go really fast. They moved us around to the different classrooms and the teachers told us what they expected out of us.

Thanks jsksmon!

I'm getting so nervous and excited! It will be great to see the classrooms and hear from the teachers on orientation day. Can't wait to see you all there!

On another note, does anyone know if we have to have the TB done by Thursday or just by the first day of clinicals? The sheet says it's required before clinicals, but I remember at orientation that they wanted everything then. If that's the case, I'll have to get a chest x-ray to make the deadline b/c I screwed up on my 2-step (long story). Anyway, if someone could let me know, that would be great. I have everything else done except the TB. I don't even know if I could get a chest x-ray done and evaluated before the orientation....Man, I hope so!
