Is there anyone else out there, or is it just me? :)
I'd love to connect with others who are applying for the Fall 2017 nursing program.
I am signed up to complete my prerequisites in the spring. English and Public Speaking are already done with an A, from a prior degree with Ivy Tech. They are also going to waive the IVY112 class because I am an Ivy Tech grad.
So I am signed up for APHY101, MATH123, PSYC101, and SOC111.
On one hand, I can't wait for classes to start! On the other hand, with the Holidays, I know the time is going to fly by.
I have the TEAS study guide from Amazon (ATI TEAS Secrets Study Guide: TEAS 6 Complete Study Manual, Full-Length Practice Tests, Review Video Tutorials for the Test of Essential Academic Skills, Sixth Edition: 9781516703838: Medicine & Health Science Books @ Amazon.com) and I am studying it and looking through the first practice test. So far, so good! Lots of info there to cover. Will keep me busy, for sure.
About me: My degree is in Business Administration and my work history is mostly in accounting, but I've been home with our 3 boys for the past 16 years. We have homeschooled for the past seven years. They all went to public school this year, and they are doing GREAT! Now I need a new direction, as well... I've got maybe 30 years of working ahead of me, and I want to have a solid career. I hated being stuck at a desk. Nursing ~ here we go!
Speaking of my A&P class -- I got some great news today. I got the top score in the class on the Chapter 1 test ... and he told me it "may" be the highest score he's seen on it. Talk about a confidence boost! I was worried about this class. I know I will still have to work my butt off for it, but at least I know I can do it now.
I'm loving my classes, and have all A's so far. (Yes, I know, I've only completed 4 weeks. haha) It's been a lot of work, but I am enjoying it. It feels really good to be in the classroom again, after 16 years off. It's an entirely different experience now that I am older and wiser.
I am glad to hear that. I think being an older than usual student does give us an edge. We are not caught up in all the social things that younger people tend to use a lot of their free time for. I did not study for my first exam in fundamentals, but still got an 80%. I have been so awfully sick and am finally getting better. I hope you set the pace for the class. Congrats
I don't know how in the world it happened -- but I did not have this thread bookmarked AGAIN. Lol. What the heck.
Thanks Leadkrm for your words of encouragement. I hope you are feeling better now! We had one son diagnosed with influenza last week, so I know it came through our house -- but not TOO horribly awful & we are all on the road to recovery now.
Five weeks of classes done now, I think? So far, so good. I am really interested to hear what you are doing in clinicals, whenever you get a chance. Hard to picture what we'd be doing in the very first semester.
Well my infection spread to my middle ear and ruptured my eardrum! That was awful, but I'm recovering now and very relieved. I am still having trouble hearing out of my right ear. I had another test in a different class and got a 92% on it. That was yesterday. Today I had a competency check in lab. Competency checks are basically your exams for Labs and I got a 92% on that as well. It was over taking patient vital signs. I have my first clinical class tomorrow and we are learning the computer system for saint francis. That way we are familiar with the charting system and things like that when we actually go into our units here in a few weeks. I hope you are doing well. Any more exams under your belt?
Well, all of that sounds great & exciting. Glad to hear it! :)
(except the the part about your eardrum, of course)
In APHY we have not had any more big exams. Sadly the instructor has just not been feeling well. He had a kidney stone bothering him one week & sent us home early... Now we has a DVT in his leg & we went home early again yesterday. Poor guy. I really like him, but he is older & clearly starting to have a rough time with his health.
So we had an open-book test for Chapter 2 (atoms & chemistry stuff). We ran out of time in class, so he let us take it home to finish it! Needless to say, I feel pretty confident about that one -- because I had a week to check & double-check my answers! Haha.
I haven't talked much about my other classes, but they are all going well. I enjoy it. All of it. I enjoy seeing those A's when I log into blackboard, and I really have a love of learning. It's a big part of why I enjoyed homeschooling my kids -- until I didn't enjoy it anymore because it just became overwhelming. I am so glad they are all doing well this year in public school, so I can have this time "for me". In a lot of ways it feels like a rebirth. A new beginning, for sure. I'm not sure exactly where it is going to take me, but I love the journey. I think that is really important.
I think the achievements you are accomplishing are nessasary for personal growth and self satisfaction. I do enjoy seeing the good grades pop up on blackboard as well. Although I did not get such a great grade on my 1st fundamentals exam (78%) I did pull together and get a 92% on my first medical surgical exam and a 92% on my vitals competency in nursing lab. I am going to join the study group this weekend to try to improve my knowledge and get my grades up. I hope it's still going well for you.
I typed a BIG response earlier on my phone ~ and then it disappeared into the great big black hole of the internet! Argh.
Your scores sound great! Glad to hear it is going well.
Things here are "ok" ... I do love school, it's just all of the other stuff in life + school = extra stress right now. Adjusting!
The stress sucks. I hate leaving the house to go to school, but I just keep telling myself it will be worth it soon. Just think, we are almost half way through the semester already. Week six is over in 2 days. Spring break is right around the corner. Then only 3 semesters remain before I graduate. I submitted a paper to sign up for summer classes so I will be graduating May of 2018 if I stay on this track. I hope things get better for you and you adjust accordingly.
How is everyone doing so far? I have been incredibly short on sleep. Looking forward to spring break ~ although I probably won't get much more sleep! My kids still have school all week, so I will still be getting up at 5:25 every day to pack lunches & get them on the bus.
I also need to focus on studying for the TEAS. I was going to take it one time in early March & once in early April, but time has run out for that. I will have to *somehow* prepare for the next month, and just do my best! I have a lot of materials and resources for that -- just need to find the most valuable resource: time.

No I just watched the stuff and read the PDF online and met with my counselor and spoke with her about it. That all I did with that
