Ivy Tech Fall 2017 Hopefuls

Published

Is there anyone else out there, or is it just me? :)

I'd love to connect with others who are applying for the Fall 2017 nursing program.

I am signed up to complete my prerequisites in the spring. English and Public Speaking are already done with an A, from a prior degree with Ivy Tech. They are also going to waive the IVY112 class because I am an Ivy Tech grad.

So I am signed up for APHY101, MATH123, PSYC101, and SOC111.

On one hand, I can't wait for classes to start! On the other hand, with the Holidays, I know the time is going to fly by.

I have the TEAS study guide from Amazon (ATI TEAS Secrets Study Guide: TEAS 6 Complete Study Manual, Full-Length Practice Tests, Review Video Tutorials for the Test of Essential Academic Skills, Sixth Edition: 9781516703838: Medicine & Health Science Books @ Amazon.com) and I am studying it and looking through the first practice test. So far, so good! Lots of info there to cover. Will keep me busy, for sure.

About me: My degree is in Business Administration and my work history is mostly in accounting, but I've been home with our 3 boys for the past 16 years. We have homeschooled for the past seven years. They all went to public school this year, and they are doing GREAT! Now I need a new direction, as well... I've got maybe 30 years of working ahead of me, and I want to have a solid career. I hated being stuck at a desk. Nursing ~ here we go!

I literally just submitted my application for Fort Wayne with 125.03.

Congratulations! I think you're the first. :)

I remember reading through conversations here and the wait just killing people. This makes me glad I will be so busy with classes and can't apply until the last minute!

If I waited to submit, I would be just as anxious. Figured I better get it over with. :angrybird5:

Oh, definitely ~ in your case, I would want to have it done and checked off my mental list, too! I was just "feeling for you" ~ having all of your ducks in a row, and now having the suspense for like 4 months. If your life is pretty busy, I'm sure it will fly by for you, too. ;)

Good luck!

Thank you! At least I know I'm not alone. So many of us are in for a long wait

I will be applying to Lawrence, Columbus, and possibly Bloomington Campus for the Fall RN program. Does anyone know their approximate schedule? I just want to know if I will need to be on 3,4, or 5 days a week. I am trying to plan ahead and see if it is even possible to hold a part time job with this program. I just took my teas and HIGHLY recommend taking the ATI practice tests, they were very helpful getting ready for the format of the questions (I got an 88) for the TEAS. Will be applying soon. Good luck to everyone!

Well, it's time to register for Summer classes already ~ registration opens tomorrow!

After some debate, I've decided I am only going to register for APHY102.

When we first discussed it, she had advised me to go ahead and get Micro out of the way, as well -- but these two classes are offered on the same days and the class times are overlapping. I haven't quite mastered "being in two places at the same time" just yet. I could take APHY102 online, but I've decided against it.

I gave it a lot of thought last night and decided this sounds good for summer. The kids will be home from school, and we are always very busy with baseball stuff going on literally almost every single day/night. They are BIG into baseball.

I also like the idea of being able to focus on just that one class, and absorb things hopefully a little more in-depth. So I will just have to tackle Micro down the road.

I think that is a smart decision. A&P will probably relate in a more concrete way to Nursing than Micro anyways. Besides, its easier to learn in person than online :)

Thanks nursevmm!

I meant to tell you, Leadkrm is going to the Lawrence campus and he posted his schedule a few pages back. It's in here somewhere. Hopefully he will check in and tell you what he knows at some point. He's very helpful. :)

Hey! Thanks for the link! And to answer your question, I actually haven't gotten that far. I was just in the process of registering an account with ATI. I have no idea where any testing centers are. And the book you mentioned in this forum, I actually bought the same one. Idk if you read the intro where it gives you suggestions as to how to use the book, but it says to read through it a few times, I'm assuming it's because each time you'll be able to absorb more info. Im really not much of a reader and tend to learn more by doing, so what I've found helpful is to start off taking the first practice test (timed as the real TEAS would be) but just doing one subject at a time. Then I look at the questions I got wrong so I know what specific topics I need to work on and study up on those. Then take the 2nd practice test the same way to see if I've improved, and then lastly I plan to take the 3rd just as I would take the actual TEAS (complete all four sections consecutively over the 3 1/2 hours or whatever) and see how I do. If I'm not satisfied with the results of my third practive test I'm going to try to find a study manual on Amazon with nothing but practice exams. I feel like the repetition will really help improve my score.

As far as you feeling like you may have wasted money on it, Ive gone to the bookstore to check out the official ATI manual and it's twice the price, no actual practice tests, and about half the length, and doesn't seem to include the helpful tips that the TEAS Secrets book does (located at the very end of the book). And I have yet to check them out, but I think the links provided in the book to tutoring type videos may be very helpful. So if you're having trouble reading it from the beginning, I suggest you just kinda skip around. That's what I've been doing and it seems to be helping. Anyway, sorry for the long post! Haha

I hope any of this is helpful for you. And best of luck! :)

Hey guys. The schedule is not usually finalized until maybe 2-3weeks before the semester begins. There are many people working part time in the program, and a few doing it full time. They just have employers who are willing to work them around the program schedule. The first semester has 4 classes and I think all other semesters have 3 classes. Don't quote me on that though.

Thanks ~ all helpful info! :)

I have been mostly using the app on my phone lately: TEAS Mastery. I started the questions on that months ago. Recently discovered the terminology section, so I went through that. Definitely helping me zero in on what I need to study, but the questions are getting frustrating because I am just down to math and science. All of the reading and language arts stuff comes naturally to me. The science and math require more time and thinking and ideally some scrap paper. But I am usually trying to answer questions here and there on my phone while I am out and about doing other things. So I may have reached a point where I need to just sit down with the books. It doesn't do me any good to get frustrated with the app.

I have been wondering what others are hearing from their advisors as far as when to take the TEAS exam. Mine told me that it can take up to 30 days for the results to officially post, so I am thinking I need to do it in the next two weeks. I can't help but wonder if I could give myself more time? But I don't want to cut it too close.
