Ivy Tech Fall 2017 Hopefuls
If I waited to submit, I would be just as anxious. Figured I better get it over with.

Our hospitals are requiring BSN within 5 years of hire. I am going for my ASN. I am looking for more hands-on care, thanks for that tip☺

I begin my prerequisites in June. I am the type to plan early for things, if I don't, I get major anxiety. That being said, I eventually want to get my NP license. I have no desire to work peds, OB floor, ER, or Medsurg. But I do have a desire to work with the elderly. My question is do you find it necessary to do acute care first before going to ltc, or should I start out at a ltc facility aftet graduation? I understand (from what I have read on AN) that ltc has it's own set of headaches!! I just wasn't sure if it would be wise to go straight into ltc or if some nurses found more benefit in starting at an acute care facility like a hospital to gain experience and sharpen skills before going into ltc?

other non traditional students / moms
I think the mommy guilt is what I am most concerned about. We toured the daycare yesterday, and as silly as it sounds, I felt horrible afterwards. The facility was great, but I am worried about how the kids will react once I am in school.

You guys are giving me hope!! I finally talked to my advisor, took my accuplacer, now I am waiting on March 14 to actually register for classes. I am 25, and between my husband and I, we have 5 kids total. He works full time, i stay at home. But hearing how well it's going for you all, I have faith that this is possible!

Anyone NOT willing to move for nursing school?
I couldn't. There are three schools in a town about 45 minutes from me. We have 5 kids and a blended family, so we need to stay here where the kids are close to the ok the other parents. Plus we are on one income, we couldn't afford to move. Only one of those programs comes with high recommendation, and is the only one I'll apply to. Unfortunately, it's a competitive school, so I will have to work very hard to keep my gpa competitive and score high on the teas. I start prereqs this fall, but i already have and have been studying the medical terminology and anatomy and physiology books from my aunt. And I know the teas and nclex are a ways away, but I have been doing practice teas testing a few times per week, using an nclex prep app to get used to those type of questions, and brushing up my algebra for the math prereq i'll be taking. So, if your school options are limited, just try to make sure you are prepared!!

Learning style
Thank you, I will check it out!

Learning style
I am curious about the difference in how you are expected to learn in nursing school vs. high school. In high school, it was mostly memorization with little application in classes like algebra and government. I did not do the greatest in those courses. Now, I excelled in courses that were more hands on or where we practiced in class (biology, spanish, art). What has been your experience with your learning style and nursing school thus far?

Traffic convictions
I hate driving period! So that's not in my end goal. I will definitely be upfront about it. I tried checking our school website and looking over the actual pdf nursing application and so far couldn't find anything on traffic convictions

Traffic convictions
Ok thank you. I will probably get the certified copy of the convictions before I am done with prerequisites just in case so I am not rushing to get my application for the nursing program completed. Thank you!

Traffic convictions
I am going to begin school for pre-nursing in the fall. I have been scouring the internet looking for other peoples experience with prior violations. I have two traffic convictions- driving 54 in a 40, and driving with no insurance. They were two tickets from one incident when i was 18 and running errands in my moms van and I lost my license. I did what was required and got my license back less than a year later. I am now 26, no points on my license and no other convictions of any type. I am in northern Indiana if that helps. Could me having these particular convictions in the past restrict me from acceptance into nursing school? I intend to be completely honest about the convictions for anyone that happens to suggest that. ☺ Just need to ease my fears, I have a lot riding on going to school as a stay at home mom of five and on one income. This is my chance to better our lives and I am trying to work out any unexpected issues that can arise. Thank you for any advice!
