Ivy Tech Fall 2017 Hopefuls

Published

Is there anyone else out there, or is it just me? :)

I'd love to connect with others who are applying for the Fall 2017 nursing program.

I am signed up to complete my prerequisites in the spring. English and Public Speaking are already done with an A, from a prior degree with Ivy Tech. They are also going to waive the IVY112 class because I am an Ivy Tech grad.

So I am signed up for APHY101, MATH123, PSYC101, and SOC111.

On one hand, I can't wait for classes to start! On the other hand, with the Holidays, I know the time is going to fly by.

I have the TEAS study guide from Amazon (ATI TEAS Secrets Study Guide: TEAS 6 Complete Study Manual, Full-Length Practice Tests, Review Video Tutorials for the Test of Essential Academic Skills, Sixth Edition: 9781516703838: Medicine & Health Science Books @ Amazon.com) and I am studying it and looking through the first practice test. So far, so good! Lots of info there to cover. Will keep me busy, for sure.

About me: My degree is in Business Administration and my work history is mostly in accounting, but I've been home with our 3 boys for the past 16 years. We have homeschooled for the past seven years. They all went to public school this year, and they are doing GREAT! Now I need a new direction, as well... I've got maybe 30 years of working ahead of me, and I want to have a solid career. I hated being stuck at a desk. Nursing ~ here we go!

I am sorry to hear about your sleep issue. I can relate though. I am in line to drop my son off for school, then heading to Lawrence to take my second med/surg exham. Finding time is hard. It will get worse unfortunately. Do not dispair though. It will be worth while. I think spring break will be a nice bit of time off to recharge and stop stressing out. I hope everyone is doing well in their classes. Let me know if anyone has a question and I will try to answer it to the best of my knowledge.

Leadkrm, good luck on your exam! My morning class got cut short & afternoon class is cancelled due to a power outage. So that was a nice surprise! Put me home about 4 hours early today. I SHOULD take a nap while the kids are at school -- but heck no, I have APHY work to do for tomorrow! Lol. See? Priorities...

Hello sir ~ I do have a question! :)

I've been emailing with my advisor about registration for Summer & Fall. So I went and looked at the course schedule online and wrote down some days and times for the fall NRSG classes.

Most of it makes sense to me -- but can you tell me how many LAB hours you had per week?

Here are the options I'm seeing:

TWR 8:00 - 12:00 (that would be 12 hours per week)

TW 8:00 - 12:00 (that would be 8 hours per week)

Which one makes sense to you? I wonder if they accidentally left the "R" off the one option. Thanks!

I think I am understanding your question. That schedule maybe different if it is for the summer. Summer classes in nursing are 10 weeks instead of the regular 8 week courses and run longer.

As as for now I have lab one day a week. Thursday 8:30am to 3:20pm

Thanks ~ and nope, that is the way they have it listed for Fall. It's 8 weeks -- like 8/21-10/14. Is that what you have -- 8 weeks of lab at those 8:30-3:20 hours?

WOW, what I posted before this edit made no sense! Haha. Lab is first, then clinicals. ;)

So the way they have it listed, it LOOKS like 8 or 12 hours of Lab each week for 8 weeks. Does that make any sense? Or is that way too much Lab time?

I think our differences are because of the campus perhaps. You were attending another campus correct? At Lawrence, lab classes in regular semesters are 16weeks besides clinicals. It started a month after the other classes.

Ok. Yes, I am in Muncie. I figured the programs were structured similarly ~ but apparently not! The way it looks to me, I'd have 8 weeks of Lab and then switch to 8 weeks of Clinicals. Thanks anyway & hey, ENJOY spring break! I know I will. ;)

Yea that is something I learned a bit ago. None of the campuses really do things the same way. I know it's odd since they are under the same school banner. I will have a great break, you do the same.

Hello, I plan on applying Fall 2017 to Indy and Columbus campus. My advisor did not recommend re-taking Eng or Psyc. Not sure which GPA they will take, because I have a BSG from IUPUI. That GPA is a 3.4, Ivy Tech GPA is a 4.0... but I have only taken a couple classes with Ivy Tech. I may re-take my TEAS though......

(IVY) A&P 101 - A

(IUPUI) ENG - B

(IUPUI) Psyc - B

TEAS - 79.3%

Points to apply are 128.9/160

Hello! I am applying to the Columbus, Indy, and Bloomington campuses for fall 2017. I have a BS is another field and I have worked in the financial services industry for the past 9 years. I also have 2 daughters, a 3.5 and a 1 year old.

My scores

English A

Pysch A

Teas 78.7- I may retake

Welcome micki and Michelle ~ glad to hear from you!

How great that you both got an A in A&P. I am not sure how mine is going to turn out. My instructor was pretty sick for a few weeks, and now that he's feeling better ~ it seems we are really rushing through things. I feel like I have to mainly teach myself, and I think I need to use various avenues to do this. I am sitting here with my lab book & textbook spread out on the table, trying to answer all of the review questions for 3 different chapters (in both books) over spring break. It's a lot to take in, and I'm not sure how to distingish what is "really" important to know, and what is not, at this point.

It's been an interesting ride in this class. One week he will tell us what we need to know for the test the following week -- and then after I study for it and we get to class, he's moving on to the next thing. No test. This has happened twice now. The thing is: He has told me that he has nothing to do with the final ~ it's a standard, "departmental" exam... and he's also told us that MOST people's grade in the course drops by a letter grade after they take it. I really don't want that to happen So for now, I'm buzzing through this stuff to get his assignments done, but don't feel I am getting really good-quality "learning" on most of it. I think I am going to have to spend a lot of time watching videos on Khan Academy (and I also just remembered I have this disc that came with the book).

I don't feel prepared for the TEAS, and I really need to take it within the next 4 weeks. The Reading & LA sections I feel pretty confident on. I need to work on Math & Science. I have two books for this + one of those "quick-study" plastic folding cards + the TEAS Mastery app on my phone. What I don't seem to have is enough hours in the day! Trying to do this with three kids and a husband who has a stressful job and health problems... Wow. This week I've had doubts. I had SO much I wanted to get accomplished for school on spring break. I don't feel like I've gotten very far. And no ~ I haven't been sitting around eating bon bons! haha :)

Hope you all have a great weekend. I'm ok. I just needed to get that out. Moving on..............
