Ivy Tech Fall 2017 Hopefuls

Published

Is there anyone else out there, or is it just me? :)

I'd love to connect with others who are applying for the Fall 2017 nursing program.

I am signed up to complete my prerequisites in the spring. English and Public Speaking are already done with an A, from a prior degree with Ivy Tech. They are also going to waive the IVY112 class because I am an Ivy Tech grad.

So I am signed up for APHY101, MATH123, PSYC101, and SOC111.

On one hand, I can't wait for classes to start! On the other hand, with the Holidays, I know the time is going to fly by.

I have the TEAS study guide from Amazon (ATI TEAS Secrets Study Guide: TEAS 6 Complete Study Manual, Full-Length Practice Tests, Review Video Tutorials for the Test of Essential Academic Skills, Sixth Edition: 9781516703838: Medicine & Health Science Books @ Amazon.com) and I am studying it and looking through the first practice test. So far, so good! Lots of info there to cover. Will keep me busy, for sure.

About me: My degree is in Business Administration and my work history is mostly in accounting, but I've been home with our 3 boys for the past 16 years. We have homeschooled for the past seven years. They all went to public school this year, and they are doing GREAT! Now I need a new direction, as well... I've got maybe 30 years of working ahead of me, and I want to have a solid career. I hated being stuck at a desk. Nursing ~ here we go!

Thanks for the info & GREAT job on your grades!

I don't see a particular number of points in the syllabus ~ I just see this:

"Lecture grades account for 45%, lab activities 30% and the comprehensive final exam accounts for 25% of your final grade."

Thank you! Seems you guys are on a different routine then. I hope it goes well. Seems like you have your hands full. Nursing lab was not as bad as I thought it would be. It turned out to be kind of fun and really informative.

So it's been another week of school since I last posted. I came home today happy & loving it! APHY last week was just a bad combo of stressors for me, I think. Today in the lab we mostly just got familiar with the microscope -- easy! And required to wear a scrub top for the first time. I felt so professional. :) lol. I told my dad and he made me take a selfie and send it to him. Awww... Even when you're old like me, your parents will still be proud of your endeavors!

How are everyone else's classes going? I'd love to hear from you!

Great to hear 37changes. I just knew things would turn around for you! It has been another week and in nursing lab today we worked on taking vitals, caring for the catheter site and emptying a foley Catheter bag. We also went over charting intake and output. Very long, but interactive class. From 8:30am to 3:30pm!

Hey everyone, I just wanted to let people know how the third week is going. I have to say that the lectures that I have so far leave a lot to be desired in my opinion. It seems that none of my instructors have reviewed each others material. I have noticed a few contradicting statements from instructor to instructor. I would like to note that each teacher uses their own teaching style to get the content to us students. So I expected that this was going to happen a little. The biggest difference I see between this set of course work and other classes is that the questions are not relying on many fact based questions. I spoke to one of the teachers about this and she said that it was to prepare the students for NCLEX type questions. I was concerned because even some LPNs were iffy on some of the questions. I think I will manage and learn how to approach these questions better as I study the ATI materials.

So glad for an update ~ keep them coming when you can! I've got 2 sick kids here ... Been an interesting few days. :(

Will do! I've been sick since school started back up with a sinus infection. It's actually been 2 separate instances, but luckily I've kept my kids and wife from getting it. Having the headaches in class has been aweful! Maybe when this clears up again I will actually do well!

Just finished up my TEAS. I have a score of 140.8. Anyone else heard of some of the scores for Lafayette hopefuls? From what I've seen I'm hopeful with my score, but I wish I wouldn't have slacked off and gotten a B in Psyc

Your score is great. I'd be very surprised if you did not get in.

Yep that's a great score! Make sure you come back and let us know. ;)

Hey again all, I took my TEAS today and scored a 91.3% I'm so happy I wanted to get at least an 85 to feel confident applying. I now have a score of 146.3/160 I purchased the online practice test B on the ATI website and scored at 83.3%. I'm planning on going to the information session in March at the Lawrence campus. Anyone else going? Do they take attendance to make sure you've attended? On the website it says you have to do it online or in person within three months prior to applying.

Hey, CONGRATS on your score! That's great. :)

My advisor told me I could do the information session online, and she acted like it was no big deal... What I mean is, she said there would be a box to check (or maybe a place to sign) when I applied -- just confirming that I have done it.

Leadkrm? What was your experience with this?

I could not attend one of them in person without having to miss part of my A&P class. :(
