Is there anyone else out there, or is it just me? :)
I'd love to connect with others who are applying for the Fall 2017 nursing program.
I am signed up to complete my prerequisites in the spring. English and Public Speaking are already done with an A, from a prior degree with Ivy Tech. They are also going to waive the IVY112 class because I am an Ivy Tech grad.
So I am signed up for APHY101, MATH123, PSYC101, and SOC111.
On one hand, I can't wait for classes to start! On the other hand, with the Holidays, I know the time is going to fly by.
I have the TEAS study guide from Amazon (ATI TEAS Secrets Study Guide: TEAS 6 Complete Study Manual, Full-Length Practice Tests, Review Video Tutorials for the Test of Essential Academic Skills, Sixth Edition: 9781516703838: Medicine & Health Science Books @ Amazon.com) and I am studying it and looking through the first practice test. So far, so good! Lots of info there to cover. Will keep me busy, for sure.
About me: My degree is in Business Administration and my work history is mostly in accounting, but I've been home with our 3 boys for the past 16 years. We have homeschooled for the past seven years. They all went to public school this year, and they are doing GREAT! Now I need a new direction, as well... I've got maybe 30 years of working ahead of me, and I want to have a solid career. I hated being stuck at a desk. Nursing ~ here we go!

Yes. UWorld is on a whole new level with their rationales, compared to ATI. And they also include pictures that are super helpful.
After I had completed all of the UWorld questions -- I went back to ATI and re-did the comp predictor practice A & B, just for review. I also did all of the assessment codes they gave us at the ATI Live Review. It was at that point when I realized how very (very) lacking the rationales are on ATI.
As an example, I hate when ATI says "this lab value is within the normal reference range" -- but they don't bother to tell you what the normal reference range is? I mean... it just seems lazy, just not nearly as helpful as it *could* be... after seeing the effort and thought that has gone into the UWorld program.
Hi there!I cannot believe that I read all of this, this is incredible. I felt that I was there for the entire journey.
I am going to be beginning my journey in Nursing and applying to be in the Fall 2019 class. One question that I had was how everyone has been doing now that they are now graduated from the programming? Has there been a struggle with finding a job? Or if you found one, what do you do? I would love to see what everyone is up to now!

I had no trouble finding a job. I had 2 offers that I turned down in hopes of getting on the unit that I wanted. It paid off and I start orientation on Monday for the burn icu at Riley hospital. I worked as a tech at Riley during school and that seemed to make it easier to get what I wanted. I hope you reach out if you have any questions.

Similar to leadkrm, I applied to three jobs, was asked to interview and shadow, and turned down two offers to ultimately accept my dream job at Eskenazi ER. I’ll also be starting on Monday! Definitely no struggle finding a job, the majority of my classmates already had something lined up before graduating.
I don't know why I am not getting notifications for this thread. Sorry, guys. I'll have to investigate!
I had no trouble finding a job -- exactly what I wanted -- PRN days at a fantastic rate of pay. I am on orientation (5 days so far) and then when I am on my own, I will see how often they really need me ~ and possibly apply for PRN days at other facilities.
I love what I am doing so far. I'm in long-term care, at the facility where we had clinicals first semester. I already know many of the residents & recognize several of the employees. That was a great move for my first workplace, because it is familiar. A lot less anxiety for me.
I am beyond happy for all of us. Congrats on the dream jobs, guys!
And I will still be around for questions. I love that there are still newcomers who find this thread helpful. That's awesome.
It’s going well for me so far as well. I don’t think I’m struggling as much as I initially thought. I’m starting my 4th week on orientation and I’ve done a lot. Helped with 4 intubations. Changed a bunch of tracheotomies and cleaned/ dressed a bunch of burns. It’s all time consuming but worth it I believe.
