Ivy Tech Fall 2017 Hopefuls

Published

Is there anyone else out there, or is it just me? :)

I'd love to connect with others who are applying for the Fall 2017 nursing program.

I am signed up to complete my prerequisites in the spring. English and Public Speaking are already done with an A, from a prior degree with Ivy Tech. They are also going to waive the IVY112 class because I am an Ivy Tech grad.

So I am signed up for APHY101, MATH123, PSYC101, and SOC111.

On one hand, I can't wait for classes to start! On the other hand, with the Holidays, I know the time is going to fly by.

I have the TEAS study guide from Amazon (ATI TEAS Secrets Study Guide: TEAS 6 Complete Study Manual, Full-Length Practice Tests, Review Video Tutorials for the Test of Essential Academic Skills, Sixth Edition: 9781516703838: Medicine & Health Science Books @ Amazon.com) and I am studying it and looking through the first practice test. So far, so good! Lots of info there to cover. Will keep me busy, for sure.

About me: My degree is in Business Administration and my work history is mostly in accounting, but I've been home with our 3 boys for the past 16 years. We have homeschooled for the past seven years. They all went to public school this year, and they are doing GREAT! Now I need a new direction, as well... I've got maybe 30 years of working ahead of me, and I want to have a solid career. I hated being stuck at a desk. Nursing ~ here we go!

Thank you for the kindness. I was so intimidated and lost when I first started my academic journey into nursing. I found a lot of wrong information from peers, as well as advisors. I found that the process isn't anywhere near as hard and scary as they make it out to be. I work with a girl who is doing pre req classes right now and she is sick to her stomach with nerves from it all. I told her about the process and answered questions and she learned a lot and gained confidence about herself. The program isn't easy. I am not saying that at all. I'm saying that it isn't anywhere near as bad as I was told when I was beginning. It almost scared me off. So I felt it was a duty for me to get out here in this forum and ease some minds.

You guys are both the greatest. Truly. I agree with you Leadkrm that I initially (and still sometimes do) hear some really scary stuff about the program. Being here though and having people to lean on even a little bit, like I said to 37changes, makes it feel THAT much more do able. Especially reading both of your journeys !!

Congratulations! :)

We were officially done on Wednesday at 4:00 after 3 days of ATI live review. Pinning ceremony is tomorrow night.

I've been plugging away at the almost 2200 questions on Uworld for about 10 days now & loving it. Pretty weird that I'm having trouble pulling myself away from it to think about things like, oh, you know, CHRISTMAS ... I suppose my kids would actually like to have presents & stuff. Haha.

Best wishes to all!

Ati live review is tough to sit through. Very dry, but helpful. You all rock. We all have different steps next for us. I have an interview for the burn/icu unit Tuesday at Riley so I'm excited for that. I want to work on that unit so bad. Wish me luck y'all.

Ours was hard to sit through for a different reason. Our instructor was a bit too lively, and it was really annoying and at times, unprofessional. She ended the last day (after we had already filled out her surveys, mind you) by replying to someone's comment about pain during circumcision, saying "it's not that bad" ... "I don't like the other" and "I don't want no pigs in a blanket".

Yeah. Let that sink in a minute. And keep in mind that there were 5 men in the room, from all different cultures and backgrounds. Not to mention all of the moms who, in this day and age, could have very well chosen not to circumcise their sons.

I've debated about whether to report it to someone or let it go.

I won't even get into her description of DKA/ketosis as the body "eating its own muscle" and using the Atkins diet as an example, trying to make us all understand what she was saying.

ANYWAY ... (lol) ... I am wishing you good luck in your interview, for sure! Please do come back and keep us updated.

Will do. I think I'm going to buy uworld to study. It's been a journey. I'm glad it's over. You let us know what's going on with your next step too ok?

Yes, so glad it's over, too -- and of course, I'll come back and update. We gotta keep Kotylynne in line, too! ;)

Bahaha I just came to say if you guys dont update (and motivate me) I will post one post every day until you do Haha

But seriously, I am living vicariously through you both at this point!!

It's been a month since graduation and I wanted to check in earlier but the site has been under construction. Has anyone taken their NCLEX yet or how has NCLEX studying been going? I took the NCLEX January 5th and found out I passed on the 7th! It's the biggest relief as I was practicing 250+ questions a day and some nights wide awake stressing about it. Good luck with studying, your job search or new job opportunities!

I took my NCLEX yesterday ~ had my license # this morning already!

Congrats!

Hope you are all doing well. :)
