Ivy Tech Fall 2017 Hopefuls

Published

Is there anyone else out there, or is it just me? :)

I'd love to connect with others who are applying for the Fall 2017 nursing program.

I am signed up to complete my prerequisites in the spring. English and Public Speaking are already done with an A, from a prior degree with Ivy Tech. They are also going to waive the IVY112 class because I am an Ivy Tech grad.

So I am signed up for APHY101, MATH123, PSYC101, and SOC111.

On one hand, I can't wait for classes to start! On the other hand, with the Holidays, I know the time is going to fly by.

I have the TEAS study guide from Amazon (ATI TEAS Secrets Study Guide: TEAS 6 Complete Study Manual, Full-Length Practice Tests, Review Video Tutorials for the Test of Essential Academic Skills, Sixth Edition: 9781516703838: Medicine & Health Science Books @ Amazon.com) and I am studying it and looking through the first practice test. So far, so good! Lots of info there to cover. Will keep me busy, for sure.

About me: My degree is in Business Administration and my work history is mostly in accounting, but I've been home with our 3 boys for the past 16 years. We have homeschooled for the past seven years. They all went to public school this year, and they are doing GREAT! Now I need a new direction, as well... I've got maybe 30 years of working ahead of me, and I want to have a solid career. I hated being stuck at a desk. Nursing ~ here we go!

That's pretty much what I've heard from LPN students. The tests are really difficult no matter how much you study. I'm most nervous about this class than any of the other ones, but we'll get through!

The peds portion is very straight forward and not bad at all. It's the ob portion that needs some work. I am going to wish you luck. I hear capstone is a lot of busy work and not much else. I can't wait to get it over with. I have a job lined up at Riley so it will be nice to start that.

How is everyone this semester? I miss hearing from everyone. I'm on thanksgiving break after tomorrow. Then 3 weeks until graduation. It's been a long time coming peeps.

I have been following this post forever. Like from almost the beginning, havent commented in a while but I am finally almost ready and will be applying next fall !!! I love being able to read everything everyone has dealt with. Congratulations on almost reaching the end!!!

Good luck on your application. Which campus is your top choice?

Yes we're almost done! A month until graduation it's going by fast but finding motivation to study has been challenging. I'm sort of burnt out and just ready to be done. I had my first interview last week for a nurse residency on a progressive care unit. So it's becoming very real. I hope I can take the NCLEX soon after graduating. I'm also in IUPUC's RN-BSN program and I only have 4 classes left after this semester. If anyone has any questions let me know but it sounds like Lawrence is changing some things around as far as 16week courses becoming 8 weeks and things like that.

I haven't heard about this. I am almost done at the Lawrence campus. I haven't heard about it. Do you have any examples of what you mean?

I do peer tutoring once a week and a first semester student who received their schedule for second semester said they have mental health for 8 weeks then med surg 2 for 8 weeks and pharmacology the entire 16 weeks.

I had those for 10 weeks because I took them in the summer. Pretty odd change.

We are having a pinning ceremony exactly one month from today. Yes, it's all beginning to be very "real" and it is crazy how far we've come.

I don't even remember what all I've posted here, but I think I would laugh at some of it if I went back and read it now. I remember having so much energy & enthusiasm ... yeah ... they zap that right out of you. Haha! ;)

Good to hear from everyone. I'm still around if there are questions. But pretty focused on finishing x, y, and z to graduate ... NCLEX prep is next ... job thoughts swirling around in my mind pretty often, too.

It's true that there are so many directions you can go ... and not all of us just "know". I have enjoyed all of my clinicals ~ and *almost* all of them, I have thought, "yeah, I could do this".

But my heart and gut feeling is still in long term care. Which I know is not the new-grad norm.

The pay is way more than our local hospital, for one thing. I also want days, and I'm willing to just do PRN for that if I have to. Maybe at multiple places. I also like the shorter shifts instead of 12 hours. I like the smaller, more "homey" feel of a long term care facility vs. a hospital. I like the idea of getting to know my patients a little more, and being a part of what is often their last days. They've lived a long life and just need some help at the end. That will be all of us someday.

I'm not looking at it through rose-colored glasses. I feel like I have a pretty good picture of what I'm getting myself into. Still ... despite what I know ... it feels right. And it has all along. Perhaps a calling.

We'll see. ;)

Good to hear. Lawrence does their pinning and graduation December 15th as well. I'm not attending those ceremonies, but have a great time to all those who are. I want to stay in the peds world, but recently thought about moving to the Nashville indiana area and I'm second guessing the drive to Indianapolis. Time will tell. Let's finish strong!

Graduation isn't until May for us. Our cohort decided to do our own pinning ceremony ~ completely put together by students, with faculty invited. I guess a lot of people won't be able to make it in May. Everyone will be working & spread out. It's weird that they do it that way.

Fort Wayne. If that doesnt happen I'll be stuck until I make it because I'm pretty sure none are close enough to drive every day. My advisor said last semester I could have easily made the LPN program but I decided to re take Aphy 101 and keeping my fingers crossed because I am doing MUCH better this time. Although I read you and 37changes previous posts and i am scared now because i ended up having to take chemistry online next semester with aphy 102 since they did not have micro offered as online. Was it hard or mostly just tedious?
