Is there anyone else out there, or is it just me? :)
I'd love to connect with others who are applying for the Fall 2017 nursing program.
I am signed up to complete my prerequisites in the spring. English and Public Speaking are already done with an A, from a prior degree with Ivy Tech. They are also going to waive the IVY112 class because I am an Ivy Tech grad.
So I am signed up for APHY101, MATH123, PSYC101, and SOC111.
On one hand, I can't wait for classes to start! On the other hand, with the Holidays, I know the time is going to fly by.
I have the TEAS study guide from Amazon (ATI TEAS Secrets Study Guide: TEAS 6 Complete Study Manual, Full-Length Practice Tests, Review Video Tutorials for the Test of Essential Academic Skills, Sixth Edition: 9781516703838: Medicine & Health Science Books @ Amazon.com) and I am studying it and looking through the first practice test. So far, so good! Lots of info there to cover. Will keep me busy, for sure.
About me: My degree is in Business Administration and my work history is mostly in accounting, but I've been home with our 3 boys for the past 16 years. We have homeschooled for the past seven years. They all went to public school this year, and they are doing GREAT! Now I need a new direction, as well... I've got maybe 30 years of working ahead of me, and I want to have a solid career. I hated being stuck at a desk. Nursing ~ here we go!
All A's in prerequisites is good, but taking TEAS two times and not scoring proficient indicates a problem somewhere along the line. How much, how long, how hard did you study for TEAS? Maybe the first time around, I could see not taking that exam as seriously as it needs to be taken & not being well-prepared. But the second time... you knew what you were getting into. Completely. So where do *you* see the problem is? What area did you score lowest in -- or was it equally low, across the board?
What I can tell you for sure is that if you struggled with TEAS, you would definitely struggle in the nursing program. I'm sorry, but that is the harsh reality. So the first step is to acknowledge your areas of weakness & work to improve them. I highly recommend the TEAS Mastery app. Study a little bit every day, and if you don't understand something -- use free resources like Khan academy to work at it until you do.
Just popping back in to see how it is going for everyone. I'm only about 4 weeks away from being done with second semester and I'll be going through the summer taking complex medsurg. This semester I'm taking pharm, medsurg 2 and mental health. Mental health has been the least favorite across the board for most in my cohort so really ready to be done with it and move on. Leadkrm you are about to graduate right? 37changes how is your second semester going for you? Not sure what to expect this summer since complex seems like a lot of material to do over the summer plus the amount of clinical hours we have to complete but medsurg has been my strongest class so far. Good luck on finals!
Good to hear from you. My semester is going OK I guess. I am taking advanced anatomy and physiology, microbiology, MedSurg 2, and mental health. Of course all of the clinicals that go along with that. It's nuts, but I had no other choice. One day at a time, for sure. And counting down to our 3-week break.
Summer for us is mother baby. They are doing it in eight weeks for the first time. And we have a new instructor, who has not taught it before, but we had her for pharmacology and I really like her. We don't have a clinical schedule yet, but I hear it is going to be a jampacked eight weeks. At least I will have these sciences done & just nursing classes to focus on. I'm tired. A little burnt out. But grades are good.
I can't believe I read the whole thread. Very interesting from everyone. No many threads like this in the 2018 2019 Hopefuls that I know of. I learned a lot and I thank everyone for their input. I will be applying spring 2019. It is cool to see how time passed by. From doing prereqs and coreqs to being admitted in to taking nursing classes. Motivating and definitely exciting. Work load must be unique for everyone, but I come to the conclusion that it is A LOT of work.
Hi Yoda Mans. I just finished my first semester at the Lawrenceburg campus for RN. The style of testing is very different. There were 18 students initially in my class. Five of them failed Med-surg and of course won't get to move on with us. It's sad because you develop attachments to your classmates because you're with them more than your family, well maybe that's an exaggeration but my first semester was four days a week, with clinical being 6 hours and lab being 7 hours. My other two days the classes were 3 hours each. So you get close to your classmates. Believe it or not, me and just about everyone in my class is ready to go back because we miss each other. Good luck to you.
Glad to here from you ang. It's neat hearing that your class is like a family. Losing them must have been hard and terrifying. I took the teas recently and I got an 80.7 with an overall 140/160. My highest was in science with 91.5. I am planning on retaking the teas again soon, because I'm not sure if that is enough. I'm applying to Lawrence and Anderson. I saw one of your posts wayy back and you seem like a comic book character lol.

Best wishes on applying. I'm still "around" if you reply here ~ I get a notification. Ask me anything.
Otherwise, haven't had much time for this forum. I hung out here and soaked up A LOT when I was first getting started ... now I am more focused on getting the job done and honestly, avoiding a lot of the negativity that is here surrounding nursing. I'm already on the path now. I choose to fill my days with as much positive energy as I can find.
Third semester done! I completed the semester at the end of July and it was intense but I made it through. On top of that, I enrolled at IUPUC and am working on getting my BSN. Just finished four classes plus still working full-time. Fourth semester starts in about 10 days and I can't believe I'm almost done! We only have class two days a week with OB/Peds Lecture and Clinical and Capstone. Now I'm thinking of where I want to work and getting prepared for the NCLEX. I'd like to take it asap after graduating so I can finish the rest of my BSN classes. If anyone has any questions about Lawrence ASN program let me know!
