Ivy Tech Fall 2017 Hopefuls

Published

Is there anyone else out there, or is it just me? :)

I'd love to connect with others who are applying for the Fall 2017 nursing program.

I am signed up to complete my prerequisites in the spring. English and Public Speaking are already done with an A, from a prior degree with Ivy Tech. They are also going to waive the IVY112 class because I am an Ivy Tech grad.

So I am signed up for APHY101, MATH123, PSYC101, and SOC111.

On one hand, I can't wait for classes to start! On the other hand, with the Holidays, I know the time is going to fly by.

I have the TEAS study guide from Amazon (ATI TEAS Secrets Study Guide: TEAS 6 Complete Study Manual, Full-Length Practice Tests, Review Video Tutorials for the Test of Essential Academic Skills, Sixth Edition: 9781516703838: Medicine & Health Science Books @ Amazon.com) and I am studying it and looking through the first practice test. So far, so good! Lots of info there to cover. Will keep me busy, for sure.

About me: My degree is in Business Administration and my work history is mostly in accounting, but I've been home with our 3 boys for the past 16 years. We have homeschooled for the past seven years. They all went to public school this year, and they are doing GREAT! Now I need a new direction, as well... I've got maybe 30 years of working ahead of me, and I want to have a solid career. I hated being stuck at a desk. Nursing ~ here we go!

I'm doing 101 in the fall. They warned me they will be sending specimens to my house to dissect, so consider that lol

I took A&P 101 online and it went pretty well. Although, some parts were challenging without an instructor present to ask more questions for better understanding. I also didn't realize the "kit" that I had to order would contain specimens. Nothing like opening a box and finding a sheep brain and a cow eye! That was a bit of a surprise for me.

Ah! Sorry I misunderstood :)

Well unfortunately after talking with my husband I don't think I'll be able to apply for nursing until 2018 or 2019 :/

Our kids are both under three, we do not live near ANY family (due to my husbands career) AND he works like, 24/7 but also since he is the only one working day care is kind of a far reach for us to afford for both. Unless something changes, I am just hoping to drag out my pre reqs to keep me busy. It was a kick in the stomach to say the least. Being a stay at home mom for almost 3 years now has been SO hard and to imagine more (until they're both or at least ONE is in school ) is really difficult for me to swallow.

I am just throwing this out there as a possibility --

If I were in your shoes, I may consider taking the few classes you need to be a CNA in the meantime. As a stay at home mom of 16+ years, I can say I wish I'd done *something* sooner. If you feel fulfilled with just the classes, great. If you are yearning for a purpose and paycheck outside the home, don't discount that.

I know your childcare situation is tough. I've been there ALL this time, until my kids were older and we made the switch to public school from homeschooling. My husband has been on-call and gone for days at a time our entire 20 years together. I felt stuck. No time or money "for me". But I think it would have been good for me and for everyone if I had figured something out -- even if it was only one day per week.

hi everyone

this wait is exhausting I really wish they didn't do the whole 4 rounds pick, I'm an international student if I don't get in the program I really don't know what to do I cant even retake the teas as this is my second trial I got a 71 and my total point is 131 because I have all A's. does anyone know if anyone was accepted into the gary/crownpoint campus on yesterday and possibly the lowest score accepted. I have tried getting more info from the facebook group but they seem very rigid with whom they let in to their group it has been two weeks now still no response I even went as far sending a message to one of the admin but still nothing.

Seats must of filled up quick. People, including myself have received emails about when to attend orientation.

gemlady, what campus(es) are receiving the orientation info? I haven't seen anything yet. Seems early!

Girl I know! Your story has been so inspiring! I'm actually over here laughing a little because our situations sound the same except that I haven't been home as long. I couldn't get a job right now (I tried, alongside nursing DISPATCHING is also something I would LOVE to do) but we just can't work out the hours with my husbands job. BUT I will say right now I feel a million times happier and content just to be back in school. One of my classes has just uploaded to CANVAS today and I'm really excited haha so as long as I can keep myself busy with school I THINK we'll be okay! I hope so anyway :)

I know on the fb page they won't approve you unless you have somewhere on your profile you actually go to ivy tech. As far as people getting letters yesterday... not many people did, and if they did they didn't post about it. Only a couple people posted they got emails from their 3rd or 4th pick schools and declined them. I've received orientation information from Lawrence which leads me to believe they are already full. Good luck you have a good score!

Did you apply for asn and pn? A lot of people that applied for both didn't realize if you didn't make the cut for asn you'd basically be chosen last for pn.

The good thing is people that are already in the program have posted "don't worry I wasn't accepted until after orientation, because 2 people decided they didn't want it."

I was accepted to the Columbus ASN campus and have already received orientation info. They told me they were mailing out acceptance letters and health documents next week.

They must do it once all the seats are full.

And the girl (lady, whatever, almost everyone seems young to me now, lol) I know who just graduated from the ASN program originally did not make it. She was accepted for LPN and then a spot opened up & she got it. Will be taking her NCLEX & she'll be an RN soon! So nobody give up hope just yet. :)

I'm still hopeful for Crown Point and Valpo but after emailing my advisor about what my next step is, she suggested coming in to go over what classes I can take for the Fall semester and mentioned earning a certificate. I'm wondering if both programs have filled up for the Fall semester.

Holy cow this thread exploded. Sorry I've been quiet for a while. I come bearing good news though. I now have the letters "RN" proudly next to my name! That test was absolutely BRUTAL.

I'm glad to see so many people getting in! I'm here for questions if you guys need me!

I'm so glad you came back to share. Geez, I think we accept your apologies since you were off kicking ass on the NCLEX!
