Is there anyone else out there, or is it just me? :)
I'd love to connect with others who are applying for the Fall 2017 nursing program.
I am signed up to complete my prerequisites in the spring. English and Public Speaking are already done with an A, from a prior degree with Ivy Tech. They are also going to waive the IVY112 class because I am an Ivy Tech grad.
So I am signed up for APHY101, MATH123, PSYC101, and SOC111.
On one hand, I can't wait for classes to start! On the other hand, with the Holidays, I know the time is going to fly by.
I have the TEAS study guide from Amazon (ATI TEAS Secrets Study Guide: TEAS 6 Complete Study Manual, Full-Length Practice Tests, Review Video Tutorials for the Test of Essential Academic Skills, Sixth Edition: 9781516703838: Medicine & Health Science Books @ Amazon.com) and I am studying it and looking through the first practice test. So far, so good! Lots of info there to cover. Will keep me busy, for sure.
About me: My degree is in Business Administration and my work history is mostly in accounting, but I've been home with our 3 boys for the past 16 years. We have homeschooled for the past seven years. They all went to public school this year, and they are doing GREAT! Now I need a new direction, as well... I've got maybe 30 years of working ahead of me, and I want to have a solid career. I hated being stuck at a desk. Nursing ~ here we go!
I am a very impatient person too. I am trying my best to keep myself busy so I won't have to think about it. I am just hoping to hear good news this Friday. I couldn't imagine having to wait another week or more after the first round of acceptances. That would make me beyond a nervous wreck lol.
It really seems like it from everything I'm gathering, it's so hard to get in then ive heard it's incredibly demanding and everyone I've talked to seems consumed by it. I got through my junior year at IPFW with a biochem degree before deciding I didn't want to teach/do labwork/fieldwork and it was honestly way easier than this is looking. @-@
Emernd, don't you be going & freaking yourself out now. You've worked hard and made it this far. This is either going to work out for you or it's not. All we can do is our best. Hang in there.
Some people have what it takes, and some don't. How do we know unless we try? This "takes" different things for different people. We will each have our own, UNIQUE challenges.
For every post I've seen here about a disgruntled nurse, I've seen one who is in love with their job.
For every post here I've seen from people struggling with nursing school, I've seen someone chime in and say, it's not THAT bad and yes, you can have balance.
Leadkrm is our own personal expert right now. Let's listen to him when he says, guys, this is doable. He says you can work. He has kids of his own. A wife and bills. Lots to juggle, as we all do. He says there is a lot of "overhype". Let's get into the program and judge for ourselves, at that point. :)
Yes guys, 37 changes does make good points. It is very doable. There are some people in my classes that do so much and still do well in school. If you have a good support structure, whether that be family, or an employer with the ability to be flexible with you, you can do this. If you are capable of getting into the program, you are capable of finishing it in the academic sense. Some people do not do well in clinical and realize this isn't the line of work for them. It takes a special person to give unbiased, holistic care for a stranger. I've heard Lawrence is the most difficult and strict campus, and I have to honestly say that it's nothing like what I was expecting. The instructors are nice enough and just have understandable sternness when it comes to the profession that they love. So at times there are stiff moments with no nonsense. I would just like to comment and say, if you are open and willing to roll with a few punches, then you will not have a bad time. If you can't handle constructive criticism, then you will have a rough time and probably think the staff is stern or mean. I think most of the horror stories are from students who clashed with these concepts.
