Is there anyone else out there, or is it just me? :)
I'd love to connect with others who are applying for the Fall 2017 nursing program.
I am signed up to complete my prerequisites in the spring. English and Public Speaking are already done with an A, from a prior degree with Ivy Tech. They are also going to waive the IVY112 class because I am an Ivy Tech grad.
So I am signed up for APHY101, MATH123, PSYC101, and SOC111.
On one hand, I can't wait for classes to start! On the other hand, with the Holidays, I know the time is going to fly by.
I have the TEAS study guide from Amazon (ATI TEAS Secrets Study Guide: TEAS 6 Complete Study Manual, Full-Length Practice Tests, Review Video Tutorials for the Test of Essential Academic Skills, Sixth Edition: 9781516703838: Medicine & Health Science Books @ Amazon.com) and I am studying it and looking through the first practice test. So far, so good! Lots of info there to cover. Will keep me busy, for sure.
About me: My degree is in Business Administration and my work history is mostly in accounting, but I've been home with our 3 boys for the past 16 years. We have homeschooled for the past seven years. They all went to public school this year, and they are doing GREAT! Now I need a new direction, as well... I've got maybe 30 years of working ahead of me, and I want to have a solid career. I hated being stuck at a desk. Nursing ~ here we go!
Well that'll be a drawback, I might just try to start early looking for a weekend job so that I can at least have less to worry about, rather than my entire position. I will mean less time at home with my family but in the end we all win once we manage to graduate (if/once I'm in for me at least). Thanks for being so willing with the information!
I applied to Lawrence/Indy only. I'm glad I have a manager who's flexible plus the majority of my full-time shift is on the weekend. I'm really hoping I can stay full-time the entire program (36+ hr/wk) I also have a part-time job at home I'd like to keep I'd have to work at least 5 hours a week, but I have no idea if maybe I'd be putting too much on my plate. I'm currently working 70 hours a week saving for nursing school.
It's all doable guys. There are honestly some people in the program who baffle me with how much they have going on outside of school. If it's not ideal, make it the most ideal that you can. I know one girl who took a loan out to live off of for the year because she couldn't make her schedule work with her job and child. It's risky, but will be worth the sacrifice in the end.
I applied to Gary/ Crown Point and Valparaiso. This wait is definitely going to drive me crazy! I have all my pre and co-reqs done so it should be straight nursing classes. I am fortunate to be a stay at home mom. However, with 6 kids from the ages of 24 to 5 and a husband I have a job! I just don't get a pay check.í ½í¸‚ I love everyone's positive attitude here.
C'mon now, I step away from my phone to have a heart-to-heart with my son about his overly dramatic girlfriend, and you all have a conversation without me... :)
Welcome, everyone ~ good to hear from you!
I applied to Muncie only. I'm not willing to travel & be that far from my kids' schools and home. Another reason I busted my butt as much as I did to get that score.
Leadkrm, your support here of everyone is very encouraging. I don't have a job right now outside of taking care of my family, but our financial situation is such that I do see the possibility of needing to find something on the weekends. I found it pretty difficult to get a ton of studying done on the weekends this semester anyway. I had to go hide in the travel trailer a few times. Lol. But I don't think we're keeping it much longer. Who has time to camp?! We sure don't these days.

That's one of the drawbacks of the program. You do not get your finalized schedule until very late. I think we got our fall schedules like maybe 2 weeks before the first day. My summer classes start Monday and I just got my final schedule today or yesterday. I can't remember.
