Ivy Tech Fall 2017 Hopefuls

Published

Is there anyone else out there, or is it just me? :)

I'd love to connect with others who are applying for the Fall 2017 nursing program.

I am signed up to complete my prerequisites in the spring. English and Public Speaking are already done with an A, from a prior degree with Ivy Tech. They are also going to waive the IVY112 class because I am an Ivy Tech grad.

So I am signed up for APHY101, MATH123, PSYC101, and SOC111.

On one hand, I can't wait for classes to start! On the other hand, with the Holidays, I know the time is going to fly by.

I have the TEAS study guide from Amazon (ATI TEAS Secrets Study Guide: TEAS 6 Complete Study Manual, Full-Length Practice Tests, Review Video Tutorials for the Test of Essential Academic Skills, Sixth Edition: 9781516703838: Medicine & Health Science Books @ Amazon.com) and I am studying it and looking through the first practice test. So far, so good! Lots of info there to cover. Will keep me busy, for sure.

About me: My degree is in Business Administration and my work history is mostly in accounting, but I've been home with our 3 boys for the past 16 years. We have homeschooled for the past seven years. They all went to public school this year, and they are doing GREAT! Now I need a new direction, as well... I've got maybe 30 years of working ahead of me, and I want to have a solid career. I hated being stuck at a desk. Nursing ~ here we go!

Emernd, it sounds like you're plenty busy, too. ;)

I'm sure Leadkrm will agree that we are not Superwomen/men. We're just very driven. When you have a family to take care of and bills stacking up, that is highly motivating. I would do just about anything for my husband & my kids. We have to get through this rough time right now, for better stability in the future.

Exactly. It's the amount of time needed and inflexibility of the program that gets to most people. Not the difficulty. It take drive, as well as a good support system. One day, 37changes kids will look back and remember their moms hard work over this process and they will be proud and inspired by her efforts. Your family has to be part of this journey if you have kids and a spouse for sure.

By any chance has anyone been told by their advisor when they can expect to hear the first round emails go out? I was told to check as early as Monday but the website said 1 week after it closes.

I haven't heard anything about that, and I didn't even see where the website said 1 week? But that is good news!

It is a great score. Don't be worried. If you have a Facebook you should join the ivy tech nursing group. People have posted their scores for each campus.

I was in the first group to do electronic only submissions and even with it being the first time, I think 1 week after the deadline was when I got my acceptance email. So if it takes longer than 2 weeks I'd contact someone.

Wow ~ I've been telling everyone "middle of summer"! And "like hopefully by July 1". Lol. I must have gotten that by reading through the older conversations here. So that is an awesome surprise!

And FYI for anyone out there reading (who cares, haha). I am NOT on Facebook, so if there's anything there I need to know, I'd love it if you would come here and share it. I tried to join through some old dummy account my son had for a game, but no one would ever approve it. Probably because it looked like some old dummy account! :)

I also do not Facebook. So I feel the situation there. Too much info about people I don't know nor would like to. Also the family feuds on there haha.

I submitted to join the group but haven't gotten permission yet, waiting on that! Hopefully the 1 week mark will be the latest otherwise I'll be a wreck waiting even longer. Plus I'm waiting to find out before registering summer classes since that'll impact what I take. I'd hate to wait too long and the ones I want end up filling up. HOPEFULLY everyone hears back first round! And I forget where I saw the 1 week thing but I somehow dug it out of one of the information pages/packets.

If I were u, I'd choose the class that best suits ur needs until you find out ur classes. I had to do that. If it doesn't work out you can always just drop the class and hopefully choose another. I regret not taking my coreq's before starting the program

Awww, shoot, you've got me thinking again. I seriously considered taking micro in person and APHY2 online (that would be my only option, as they are scheduled same days at overlapping times). So many people discouraged me from that, I decided to do APHY2 in person and save micro for later. I really hated to do that, since I somehow (miraculously?!) had financial aid coverage for my one class, and earned a free class through the summer bonus program. Feels like throwing money away.

Here I was, thinking I wouldn't have the "official word" until maybe close to July... So if I find out way sooner than that ~ that's like no wait at all!
