Ivy Tech Fall 2017 Hopefuls

Published

Is there anyone else out there, or is it just me? :)

I'd love to connect with others who are applying for the Fall 2017 nursing program.

I am signed up to complete my prerequisites in the spring. English and Public Speaking are already done with an A, from a prior degree with Ivy Tech. They are also going to waive the IVY112 class because I am an Ivy Tech grad.

So I am signed up for APHY101, MATH123, PSYC101, and SOC111.

On one hand, I can't wait for classes to start! On the other hand, with the Holidays, I know the time is going to fly by.

I have the TEAS study guide from Amazon (ATI TEAS Secrets Study Guide: TEAS 6 Complete Study Manual, Full-Length Practice Tests, Review Video Tutorials for the Test of Essential Academic Skills, Sixth Edition: 9781516703838: Medicine & Health Science Books @ Amazon.com) and I am studying it and looking through the first practice test. So far, so good! Lots of info there to cover. Will keep me busy, for sure.

About me: My degree is in Business Administration and my work history is mostly in accounting, but I've been home with our 3 boys for the past 16 years. We have homeschooled for the past seven years. They all went to public school this year, and they are doing GREAT! Now I need a new direction, as well... I've got maybe 30 years of working ahead of me, and I want to have a solid career. I hated being stuck at a desk. Nursing ~ here we go!

Looking at the class list online, I think I should wait and save micro for later.

First semester she told me I'd have 100, 102, 105, 106, and 115.

So I'm not sure what the next semester looks like... that just leaves 110, 111, I already have Public Speaking from my prior degree, and probably room for micro there. Will be interesting to see how they work it all out.

I already have Sociology done, too -- so that opens up some time down the road, as well.

Yes, just remember that you have to have all co req's done before the start of the last semester of the program.

Gotcha. My advisor has emphasized this, as well.

Everything will be in 4 semesters, though, right? So you're looking to be finished after Spring 2018?

And those of us who get into the fall program should be done after fall 2018?

I'm still confused on this. I just met another girl here in Muncie who just finished the program and they are having graduation tomorrow. If they only start in the fall, and they go through the summer... that would be 5 semesters. ???

I can't be certain. Here, summer isn't a requirement. So my slated grad is after fall semester in 2018. Doing summer bumps me up to graduating may of 2018 though.

Well, I will let you know when I find out! :)

So do they not follow the schedule that's posted online? Cause as you stated taking all five of those classes first semester would only leave 2 the following semester. Actual nursing courses anyway. I'm hoping it more follows the schedule listed on the website. It seems more manageable that way instead of taking five the first semester and 2 the second.

In Lawrence, I had 4 classes in my first semester. Nursing lab, nursing fundamentals, medical surgical nursing 1, medical surgical nursing 1 clinical. That is lawrence though. I know u guys are probably different though

I'm not sure if I missed you saying this before but by any chance do you remember how many hours a week you were devoting to class and studying? because I'm trying to figure out my work schedule around classes

I was not devoting nearly enough. They were saying some crazy numbers, not counting the assigned reading. I think you would be fine with reading and then doing like an hour or so each night to stay fresh on material. Then do some heavy study time for each test.

The way the class list is set up online, it shows APHY102 being taken that first semester. Since I will already have it done, I asked her if I would just take those four nursing classes or if I would add in pharm or micro. That's when she responded and told me I'd be in those five classes.

When I talked to another girl who is just finishing, she said we all stay together. So it's not like she was just adding in pharm for me -- maybe that's how they do it here for everyone. I really don't know.

What I do know is your schedule will be decided by them, and that's that. You may have control over when you take your co-reqs, but as far as the NRSG classes & clinicals, we have no say. From what I can tell.

Another girl in one of my classes told me about her friend who was getting her clinicals switched around on her all the time in her last semester. I don't know if it was like that the entire time, though.

Yes it's all up to them! Unless you finds someone willing to switch you class times. Then the scheduler can usually work with u. Just had a friend to this to stay with our study group in clinical this summer.

So when do you end up finding out your schedule for the fall then once (if) you get your acceptance? Because that will have a big impact on my job since I work weekdays second shift
