Is there anyone else out there, or is it just me? :)
I'd love to connect with others who are applying for the Fall 2017 nursing program.
I am signed up to complete my prerequisites in the spring. English and Public Speaking are already done with an A, from a prior degree with Ivy Tech. They are also going to waive the IVY112 class because I am an Ivy Tech grad.
So I am signed up for APHY101, MATH123, PSYC101, and SOC111.
On one hand, I can't wait for classes to start! On the other hand, with the Holidays, I know the time is going to fly by.
I have the TEAS study guide from Amazon (ATI TEAS Secrets Study Guide: TEAS 6 Complete Study Manual, Full-Length Practice Tests, Review Video Tutorials for the Test of Essential Academic Skills, Sixth Edition: 9781516703838: Medicine & Health Science Books @ Amazon.com) and I am studying it and looking through the first practice test. So far, so good! Lots of info there to cover. Will keep me busy, for sure.
About me: My degree is in Business Administration and my work history is mostly in accounting, but I've been home with our 3 boys for the past 16 years. We have homeschooled for the past seven years. They all went to public school this year, and they are doing GREAT! Now I need a new direction, as well... I've got maybe 30 years of working ahead of me, and I want to have a solid career. I hated being stuck at a desk. Nursing ~ here we go!
Good luck to all who are getting ready to test! I hope you'll come back and let us know how everything goes. :)
I'd say if all of these advisors are advising this way, then you'll probably be fine re: timing.
Whatever you do ~ don't score 100 on anything! That took me over a week to get fixed, talking to numerous people, finally all the way up to the Dean of ECI School of Nursing. They all told me they'd never seen "100" before, and they seriously couldn't figure out how to get it to work in the computer system! Lol but not funny. If I had waited, it would have been a real mess.
Oh that is so good to hear! I stressed so much about it last night. I told my husband either way I'd still take my test and would apply for the Fall program. I've been studying since I took a practice test. I scored an 80% so I thought thats not a bad place to start. I'm hoping once I take the real test that I can score mid to high 80s if not higher. Good luck to anyone who is testing soon!
I'm sorry, Kp. This thread is meant to be an encouragement to all of us! The problem seems to be that so many people are hearing different things from different advisors. IMO, it it says "one month" in the online application information -- then that should actually be a rule. If it's not a rule, why put it there? Apparently, though, it's there for no reason...
Best wishes on your exam!
And for anyone this may help: I have been thinking I was going to have to get titers done for all of the required vaccinations, because I was born 38 years ago and that hospital doesn't even exist anymore -- let alone my childhood doctor. But today, as I was talking to them about it at my doctor's office, someone recommended that I check with my high school. I hadn't even thought of that, and I'm not sure why... I guess because no one had suggested it to me yet. So I have a call in to the school, and she is checking, but she says they "usually do have them". That sort of surprises me! It's been 20 years since I graduated. But man, that would be nice. I was really thinking I was going to have to have a BUNCH of vaccinations.
Not to worry, 37changes, there is plenty of encouragement here! I haven't been able to get a response from my advisor so this thread has been helpful in more ways than one. I agree with what you said about the application information. If that is not the rule, why mention that at all? In the event that my application isn't complete in time for the Fall semester, I will just have to adjust and go from there. I wish there was more accurate communication and guidance for everyone though.
Hello everyone! My name is Jennifer. I'm 43 years old, married, and have 6 children. I just took my TEAS on May 5th and I got a 76. So, combined with my class grades I applied this morning with a score of 136. I applied to Gary/Crown Point and Valparaiso. I'm so happy this part is over but I still feel like I'm on pins and needles awaiting an acceptance letter. Great job to everyone who has passed the TEAS and good luck to those who still need to!
So glad to hear from everyone & I hope you'll keep checking in!
Also hope Leadkrm will come and tell us when he's done with his first semester of nursing school & he can let us know his thoughts. :) All tips & advice welcome!
I am just focused on finishing up my finals this week, seeing my grades officially posted, then I'll be ready to hit "submit" on that application. Excited to see how everything turns out.

I planned to apply to the Gary (Crown Point/Merrillville) program for Fall 2017 but didn't realize until I read a few replies on this thread that I needed to take my TEAS exam much sooner than I planned to. I have it scheduled for next week. Has anyone else ran into this trouble?
