Ivy Tech Fall 2017 Hopefuls

Published

Is there anyone else out there, or is it just me? :)

I'd love to connect with others who are applying for the Fall 2017 nursing program.

I am signed up to complete my prerequisites in the spring. English and Public Speaking are already done with an A, from a prior degree with Ivy Tech. They are also going to waive the IVY112 class because I am an Ivy Tech grad.

So I am signed up for APHY101, MATH123, PSYC101, and SOC111.

On one hand, I can't wait for classes to start! On the other hand, with the Holidays, I know the time is going to fly by.

I have the TEAS study guide from Amazon (ATI TEAS Secrets Study Guide: TEAS 6 Complete Study Manual, Full-Length Practice Tests, Review Video Tutorials for the Test of Essential Academic Skills, Sixth Edition: 9781516703838: Medicine & Health Science Books @ Amazon.com) and I am studying it and looking through the first practice test. So far, so good! Lots of info there to cover. Will keep me busy, for sure.

About me: My degree is in Business Administration and my work history is mostly in accounting, but I've been home with our 3 boys for the past 16 years. We have homeschooled for the past seven years. They all went to public school this year, and they are doing GREAT! Now I need a new direction, as well... I've got maybe 30 years of working ahead of me, and I want to have a solid career. I hated being stuck at a desk. Nursing ~ here we go!

Did we have a bunch of posts disappear, or was I so tired, I imagined we had a conversation last night? Lol

I am Tiffany I am currently a student at Bloomington applying for two fall semester ASN program I'm really nervous and can not stop thinking about it. I have an A on all my prerequisites and I got a 72.7 on my teas my score is 132 and I'm not sure it that's enough. I'm applying for both Terre haute and Bloomington and I really wish my anxiety would let me rest.

Welcome, Tiffany! I remember reading through old threads of people applying, and then having to deal with THE WAIT. Please check back and let us know if you made it. What are they telling you at your campus ~ would you be able to retake the TEAS if you wanted to?

Just remember everyone who is applying for Fall, the deadline is coming up May 18! Have your Teas done, and make sure you get your high school transcript! Even if you've been to college and graduated before (I have a B.A. History), the state of Indiana requires it! I say this, because it sounds like some campuses are NOT very good at communicating requirements, and it can be easy to miss some needed information. My first advisor never mentioned the transcript, but my second did back in February. Keep going, all! We are almost done with this semester!

My class had our APHY 101 lecture and lab exam 3 this week. Our instructor has curved quite a few exams so far, have yours? We all really like our instructor. We get along great. He calls us his "smart class," and we really tap into all the knowledge he has! I hope the rest of you are having similar positive experiences.

Another note about LPN TO RN: If you are wanting to go into the ASN, RN program, I would advise NOT settling for the LPN program to later transfer to RN. Just don't do it. Stay the course you have set for yourself. You can always wait. I have heard many people seriously oppose accepting the LPN route. However, do what is best for you, and follow your gut. We will all do great. Good luck to you all!

HollyNoel ~ great advice. I appreciate having you here. :)

I must agree... I have spoken to some classmates who seem to not have all of their ducks in a row & are not getting the great help & info I have gotten from my advisor.

Our APHY class has been interesting. I think it's probably about time for the instructor to retire. I have an A right now -- currently only missing 2 points. But I'm not sure how prepared I am for the final. We've been behind & are now playing catch-up. I will have a lot of studying to do to keep that A, I have a feeling.

Well, here's my friendly advice for today.............

If you haven't started the application process -- if you haven't even clicked the button and "looked around" -- I'd advise you to do so now.

I just started poking around for the first time today. (Can't apply until my classes are finished.)

SOMEONE -- the only way I can see this happening -- is that someone must have manually put in my TEAS scores, and it was showing my Math as 10% ............ instead of the 100% I actually accomplished!

This error that someone made is of course lowering the points for the program -- big time -- but my overall score was so high, it would still let me apply with a 10% in Math! That's nuts. I can't even believe this is happening.

Yes, I contacted my advisor. Just wanted to share.... Check and double-check everything, folks!

^ and a perfect example of why I would not want to wait until the last minute to test.

Has anyone heard of submitting your application before prerequisites are completed? I don't want to do this -- but there's a girl in my class who was advised to do so, so she did. I think I worried her today when I said I was advised to submit my application after all final grades are in. They told me to make sure all of my teachers had grades submitted by their deadline, and that if even one of them didn't, I wouldn't be able to apply. Thoughts?

Sorry. I guess I unbookmarked this somehow. I in fact did submit mine before my A&P 102 was finished. I ended up with an A but I was confident in my performance. If you think you will get a decent grade then it doesn't hurt to try.

It's easy to accidentally unbookmark it when I am on my phone because that button is so close to the "prev" and "next" buttons. I've done it myself a few times. Just don't let it happen again! Haha. :) Hope your classes are going well!

Did you mean you didn't have APHY 101 finished yet? We are still completing those four basic classes that show up. I guess my understanding was that you "couldn't" submit until they were done and final grades were in. Apparently that's not true, since she is being advised otherwise...?

I was done with a&p 101. I applied while I was still taking 102 still. The only classes that have to be completed by the start of the program are the prereq's. the co-req's can be done while in program. I recommend getting them all done before applying. So I guess what I'm saying is that I took A&P 102 in fall, but started my application and submitted it in the September prior to the fall semester. My final grade loaded to my application automatically.

Right, that makes sense to me that you can apply while you are still finishing classes that are not required for the application process. But this girl is still finishing those prerequisites. I personally won't be submitting my application until I see those grades in there -- and that is how I was advised. I assumed this is how everyone does it -- and that it is the way it HAS to be done. But she says her advisor told her to go ahead and submit the application without those classes finished. I think I worried her, but I hope it all works out ok.
