Hi everyone! I wanted to start a thread for those of us planning on applying by April 1st....
Has anyone taken the TEAS yet? Where are you with your pre-reqs? What campus are you applying to?
I am planning on taking the TEAS in December, so I have enough time to retake it :) and this is my first semester at Ivy Tech. I'm taking APHY 101, ENGL 111, and PSYC 101 all this semester and I will complete APHY 102 next semester. I am planning on applying to Indy.
And good luck to all the Spring 2010 applicants! :yeah:Hope everyone gets in!!!
I couldn't make any of the CNA classes at the Ivy Tech Campuses work with my job hours, so I'm taking it at a place on the southside of Indy called Resq Health & Safety Training. It costs about $550 and lasts 8 weeks. At the end, you take your certification exam at their facility with a state exam proctor there. We found out last night that our test date is July 17th so I am praying I'll have a job lined up by the end of July. The instructor told us that as soon as we are done with training (end of June) we could start applying for jobs but couldn't actually start working until after we pass the exam in July. If you Google Resq Health & Safety Training you'll find their website. They have another training class starting in June (I think?).
"I'm also currently taking a CNA class so that I can go ahead and hopefully start working as a CNA before the nursing program starts - if I get in the nursing program that is."Could you tell me how the CNA program works? Is it through ivy tech? I would like to do this too, but I haven't had time to research it yet. If there is a program I could do this summer, that would be great!
Hey everyone...haven't posted on here in a while, but thought I would check in and was surprised to see that some people are starting to get letters! My nerves have calmed about everything a lot more lately (been trying to just not think about it all-hints why I haven't been checking the message board! haha!) I also decided to sign up for anatomy 102 this summer as my back up for not getting in to a program this fall...I have 3 A's and one B...and did well on my TEAS, so if I re-take my one Anatomy course and get an A, I should get into the RN program no problem starting in the spring....this helped me a little bit just to have a back up plan and know that its not the end of the world if I don't get in this semester! Deep breaths!!!
Does anyone know if you start the LPN program this fall how it works for applying to the transitional program? Could you technically apply to it this January to start right after you graduate the LPN in summer 2011??
congrats erin and laura! i'm so excited and happy for you!!erin - what did the acceptance letter say? did it have the orientation date? anything else? i'm curious as to what immunizations, etc we will need. i know that we will need 2 tb tests and i'm sure i'll have to get a tetorifice booster (if i get in of course), but i'm not sure what else.
okay, so its 1am and i just got back from a whole day of doing work at my mom's house (you know, to keep busy), finding out my husband has to have surgery probably within a couple weeks (which we absolutely cannot afford for him to be off work), and my one year old has started running a terrible fever that won't go down with meds. and its pouring down rain in greenfield. how could this day possibly get worse?? so i thought "hmmm, since i've already been rained on, i wonder if my husband checked the mail today"...so i walked the drenching long walk to get the mail and i see a letter in my mailbox from ivy tech...i totally froze. standing in the pouring rain like a fool, i find out i got accepted to lafayette's lpn program!!!!! not the rn like i was hoping for but dang its a start! one campus down, 3 more to wait for!!! what a relief! now i can worry about the important things: like my baby's fever and how we are going to pay bills while my husband has to be off work for over a month....sigh
wow, i just realized that i didn't even respond to tara's comment like i meant to. lol ...my letter was definitely bulkier than a normal one pager. but i didn't want to take that as a sign of acceptance till i read "congratulations!" (and, yes, it is in all caps on the first like of the letter.) it said we will get all our info at the orientation on june 21st.
i had 197 points, i didn't the 3 extra for living in the certain county or whatever. i didn't get accepted to the rn program at all, i did get a letter for the lpn program saying i can be an alternate if i accept. i don't know for sure if i am going to accept that or not. i am going to look into iuk and maybe go there for rn. i went ahead and signed up for advanced physiology, abnormal psych, communications, and an ivy class for this fall at ivy tech, but if i go to iu then obviously i will drop those classes. the letter i got about being an alternate said something about it being for this fall so i don't really understand what that means because i thought the lpn program was in the spring? so who knows lol. i'm going to try to get ahold of someone at iu and at ivy tech on monday and see what i can figure out. i have until june 8th to either accept or decline the lpn alternate so hopefully i get some answers from the two schools quickly....
there is a fall and and a spring lpn program. the one you received is for the start of fall. you and i have the same points and i did not get to be an alternate, so you must be one of the 5 ahead of me. i hope you get some answers quick as well :)
