Hi everyone! I wanted to start a thread for those of us planning on applying by April 1st....
Has anyone taken the TEAS yet? Where are you with your pre-reqs? What campus are you applying to?
I am planning on taking the TEAS in December, so I have enough time to retake it :) and this is my first semester at Ivy Tech. I'm taking APHY 101, ENGL 111, and PSYC 101 all this semester and I will complete APHY 102 next semester. I am planning on applying to Indy.
And good luck to all the Spring 2010 applicants! :yeah:Hope everyone gets in!!!
*SMH*
Back in 2005 I had my daughter had just turned 18 and thought I should go to school...just thinking that was the right thing to do I guess so I enrolled at Ivy Tech. Well I didn't really know what I wanted to do and I ended up just quitting basically. Anyway last semester when I enrolled at Ivy Tech again (Fall 09) everything was fine, no one mentioned anything about the old classes and to be honest I had pretty much forgotten about them. UNTIL good old Ivy Tech decided to terminate my financial aid, I didn't even know it happened or why, didn't get a letter or anything. Anyway in order to take classes this semester I had to file an appeal, which did get approved but once again for this Summer semester my financial aid has been terminated and I am supposed to start the appeal process all over again...I'm over it! I love the cost, the idea of being able to be done and not have to sit on a waiting list to get an ASN or LPN program, and the teachers for the most part are great too, but I really think this is ridiculous. These were a few classes that I stopped going to 5 years ago, courses that I did not "fail" but just quit and when I came back last semester they allowed me to sign up and even enroll in those SAME courses (they were gen. ed. like Engl, Psyc, and Math) and I passed EACH one. Whoo...that feels better:) lol. But seriously it is frustrating that I messed up 5 years ago and I'm trying to come back when I'm actually ready but I keep getting pushed from it.
Made an A in A&P II, woohoo! I received A's in A&P I as well as Chemistry, so the only final grade left is Tech Writing and I'm 99% positive that I'll get an A in there, too. Yay, I'm glad this semester is FINALLY over and I hope that my 207 is enough to get me into the RN program!!!
How are all you ladies?
I'm going crazy!!!! I was reading a bunch of posts on here last night and I realized that the more I read, the more butterflies I was getting in my stomach. I get to the point of feeling chills from being so nervous! I don't know how the next month is going to go waiting on those letters. Doing all I can to stay busy, busy, busy.
Tara-am I right that you are from Evansville? Most of my husband's family lives there.
I asked the health science office receptionist how many they're letting into Lafayette and she said "around 50." She couldn't tell me anything about points this year or last year...
Ugh! I don't know how I'm going to make it. She said that it'd probably be about another month of waiting. I'm going to go crazy. :dzed:
On another note, I bought my new books yesterday and my chemistry class looks HARD. I might need some help with that one.
Gilla - yep, I'm in the Evansville area. I'm not actually in the county which is why I don't get those extra points (you would think they would give it to those of us who choose to go to Ivy Tech instead of a college in our own county, but anyway ). We aren't from here originally, but we've lived here about 8 years. Which campus/campuses did you apply to? There are so many people on there that I can't remember each campus, sorry!
Now that classes are finished, I'm getting a little more nervous. Hopefully these next few weeks will pass as quickly as the rest of this year has.
Erin - what chemistry class are you taking? I just finished Chemistry 101 and it wasn't too bad. I made an A in there, amazingly enough (by the skin of my teeth!).
Tara-I applied to both programs at Lawrence, Anderson, Lafayette, and Columbus. The region points are a little frustrating. They consider me to be in the Lawrence region but when you mapquest directions from my house to either Lawrence or Anderson, the Anderson campus is a lot closer. Frustrating! So now my region points are in a the one region with the highest competition and I feel like I could better utilize the 3 points at one of the other campuses I applied at.
Taranator - I'm taking Chem 101. I was just thumbing through the Selected Solutions Manual they gave me with my textbook and it all just looked like really complicated math. I just finished Math 118 and it was an easy A, but it looks like the math in Chem is going to be a lot more advanced. Is it? I'm not sure. I'm also assuming it'll be a little more intense since I'm taking it in 10 weeks instead of 16. I have a three-hour lab once a week!
I thought chem was a lot more difficult than 118. I took it at purdue though, so I don't know how different it is at ivy tech. It was like 10x harder than high school chem...I would think chem at ivy tech wouldn't be too bad since it's just a basic intro class.
Erin...do u know if we have to submit a new transcript for the spring semester?

The presenters at a couple of the nursing info sessions I went to said that they don't recommend taking Chem. One had said that in her 25 years of nursing she has only used Chem stuff about 2 times. They said they recommended Micro and Adv Physio. I've taken both. I was worried that Physio would be super difficult but it really wasn't bad...if you remember even half the stuff from ANP 1 & 2 then the advanced class is almost like a big review.
Tara-My husband's family has been there for EVER. But they don't seem to want to talk to us much...so I have never really spent time in Eville. My sister-in-law's husband (no ex-husband, no husband, ex-husband...whatever they are this week) goes to the ITCC down there. Is it a large campus?

Chem 101 wasn't bad, at all. Somehow I managed to get an A and if I can do it, anyone can do it! There are a couple of labs/quizzes that require math, but not many. Who is your instructor, Erin? I had D.K. (can I put initials?) out of South Bend and would definitely recommend him.
Gilla - I wanted to take Micro and Adv. A&P, but the E'ville campus doesn't offer Adv. A&P, so I was out of luck there. It was Chemistry or nothing since there was no way I was taking Physics. I wish I could have taken Av. A&P, though....
The campus is okay sized, I guess. I'm a terrible judge of what's large and what's small when it comes to stuff like that. I guess for a CC, it's large? The building is really nice, it has this big glass front that's pretty cool. lol. other than that, I don't know what to say. Most of my time at ITCC has been spent online taking classes through BB.

That's crazy that they offer the nursing program but not a class that is perfect for people preparing to be nurses. lol...such is life. Advanced physio can be pretty fun. It gets your mind in the habit of thinking about the application of all the stuff you learn in ANP 1&2. Almost all the assignments we had were application and case studies. And I really liked the lab part of it. We did some stuff in the actual lab but the rest were online labs like you have if you take Micro online. I really liked it and felt like I walked away with so much more practical knowledge.
Letters are supposed to be going out in 3 weeks! That is, assuming the campuses get them out on time. I have heard some people talking about campuses not sending letters out until two or three weeks after the deadline...this is going to be such a long summer. :grn:
