Ivy Tech 'Fall 2010' Applicants

Published

Hi everyone! I wanted to start a thread for those of us planning on applying by April 1st....

Has anyone taken the TEAS yet? Where are you with your pre-reqs? What campus are you applying to?

I am planning on taking the TEAS in December, so I have enough time to retake it :) and this is my first semester at Ivy Tech. I'm taking APHY 101, ENGL 111, and PSYC 101 all this semester and I will complete APHY 102 next semester. I am planning on applying to Indy.

And good luck to all the Spring 2010 applicants! :yeah:Hope everyone gets in!!!

I agree, gilla! It seems silly that this is a class that we would definitely need for nursing, yet it's not offered at my campus! You would think that Adv. A&P would be offered at each campus since the nursing program seems to be the backbone of ITCC. I really wanted to take it, but alas...I was thwarted at each turn. ;)

I can't believe that the letters will be out so soon! Now that the semester is done, the waiting is going to be even harder! I wasn't actually planning on applying for Fall 2010 b/c I thought that I had to be finished with ALL prereqs before I could apply, but as soon as I found out that I could send in my app while finishing up A&P II, I was gung ho! I just wish I hadn't waited until mid-Feb to take my TEAS! LOL, I was right in the middle of both A&P's and I didn't even study for the TEAS the first time I took them which accounted for my lower grade. However, I didn't study much for it the second time, either, so I'm lucky that I raised the grade at all! *sigh* Hindsight is 20/20, yeah? I just have to hope the my score will make the grade...the *sort of* pun was intended. ;)

On a different note; my husband told me last night that my humor isn't always as funny to him as it is to me, especially when its something that he finds kind of 'sad' or not funny. For example, I have psoriasis and I made a joke about having to sit at the pool this summer in jeans and a t-shirt b/c of it. I found it amusing b/c, while the places on my legs are unsightly, I could have it all over my body, including my face, or I could have a severely debilitating disease, so things could be MUCH worse, so why not laugh about it? However, he did NOT find it funny and thought I was playing it off as though I were joking and I told him that he should know my humor by now; its dry and sometimes self deprecating. Why not laugh about stuff instead of getting down about it? Once he thought about it that way, his mind was at ease, but he still didn't think it was that funny, which stinks b/c a cricket noise after a joke is like being hit with tomatoes. ;-)

BTW, I know all that was random, but I just felt like sharing. Maybe it got everyone's mind off of the letters for a bit? Anyone else have any unintentionally amusing husband stories?

Hi! This is my first time posting. I have applied to the Lawrence campus for Fall 2010! I just read on this thread that there may have been 500 applicants! Is this normal? Wow! I just finished my four prerequisites and got my A's. What a relief!

I only applied to the Lawrence campus; it is a 50 minute drive from my house. I was planning on applying at the Greencastle branch, which is much closer, but they dropped their RN program at the last minute. I was really bummed. Anyhow, I just realized that there is a Lafayette campus which would also be about 50 minutes from my house. I am not crazy about driving to Lawrence because I am coming from Danville which is west of Indy and I hate the traffic, but I was wondering if anyone know anything about the Lawrence program? I didn't apply there, so I would have to wait and apply in Fall, and I am just wondering if anyone thinks it would be worth the wait? Is the campus nice? Faculty, etc?

I might not get into the Indy program, anyway, and I wish I had applied to Lafayette, too.

Also, does anyone know where I can sell my Ivy Tech books for my online classes? I have the lab kit, too. When I called the online bookstore, they told me that they weren't buying back ANY of them! I think I spent about $600 and I think they are still using the same edition for the summer, so I don't understand why they won't buy them back!

Welcome DanvilleDebora! :nurse:

I'm not sure about the Lawrence campus, but I know here in Lafayette we had (from conflicting reports I've heard) anywhere from 200-400 applicants for RN this year. I love Ivy Tech Lafayette, but (as you all already know on here!) I'm driving myself crazy waiting for my letter.

Hi guys, this just happened to me last week also. But are any of you dealing with Ivy Tech Valpo campus? I have been so upset for the last week over this I finally decided I need to post. I have never been to Ivy Tech before and just am starting this summer. I dont know what the procedures are persay at this facility and I have been given misinformation twice and made to feel stupid when calling and asking for help. Is this just happening to me, or have others run into this?

Hi everyone!

I am waiting like everyone else for those letters to be mailed out now that the grades for the semester have been posted. I finally after two tries got my straight A's and now I am just hoping that my TEAS test score is high enough to get me into the RN program. I live in Brownsburg and applied to both programs at both Lafayette and Lawrence. Both campuses are about the same distance for me, but I only get the bonus 3 points at Lawrence. I am hoping to get in with a 209 at Lawrence and a 206 at Lafayette. With so many applicants I will be holding my breath until those letters come. This is my third time applying, so I am hoping that the third time is the charm! Good luck to everyone, and here is to hoping that the time passes quickly!!

Laura

Tara, here is my husband story...

It was last year in February that my husband caught a really nasty cold. He had not slept well for months previous to this event and he had worked all night before this and hadn't slept in over 24 hours. My family (+ my sister) went to my mom's for the day to help her get some stuff done around the house. My husband, sister, daughter, nephew and myself all headed back to my house late that night. My husband dozed off on the way. When we got home, he got out of the car and said he felt like he was going to toss his cookies. So I told him to take some deep breaths and get into the house. Before I knew it, he was stumbling a little and hit the side of the car. He then tried to regain his balance then totally passed out, smashed into the front quarter-panel of my car and hit the ice covered, gravel driveway. After my sister and I checked on him to make sure I wasn't a widow, we looked at each other. We suddenly couldn't stop laughing because there was no way we would be able to get him up the front steps with me being 8 months pregnant and everything was covered in ice! He came to and could just barely help us to get him inside. I guess the mix of sleep deprivation, being sick, and cold medicine finally had gotten to him. And now every time I look at the side of my car and see the dents from him slamming into it, I can't help but laugh. I don't think I'll ever get it fixed.

So Tara, I understand how people don't get your sense of humor sometimes, I have that same problem too. Just to clear anything up by the way, we noticed that my husbands sleep problems were getting worse. He was showing all the signs for sleep apnea. So we finally had him checked....negative on sleep apnea. Turns out its narcolepsy! So that explains a lot... I'll tell you now, narcolepsy is not a cheap disorder to deal with, so if we weren't able to laugh about it we would be much worse off.

Lafayette Erin

I just finished Chem 101 and it was ok....I got an A in it and as far as the solutions manual goes.....my instructor assigned all the problems that were not in the solutions manual, so I hope that is not the case for you : )

I think that happens no matter which Ivy Tech you go to my friend.... :(

Oh that is too funny! I would have laughed as well, after making sure he was okay! I can just picture it...you did a great job at describing, gilla!

Wow, narcolepsy! Please, don't think I'm rude, but I did get a laugh out of that just b/c it made me think of the girl in Deuce Bigalow, Male Gigolo! I could just picture someone falling asleep in their food. However, it is a serious illness and I agree that you have to be able to laugh, otherwise everything would get you down. I hope that he is doing well!

Psoriasis isn't that serious, but its definitely unsightly and incurable, so it throws a pall over my summer activities. I don't usually wear shorts much anyway (I'm a pale Irish girl who doesn't tan well), but it would be nice to wear shorts or even Capri's and not worry about looking as though I have leprosy (and yes I'm laughing while writing that and no my husband doesn't think that's funny either ). However, I'm lucky that its not worse. It's kind of funny actually, b/c my MIL teases my husband that he married his mother. We both have a broken front tooth that had to be fixed (4th grade, gym floor hockey...whoever thought I was coordinated enough to play was WRONG!), we both have upturned ski-slope noses, similar sense of humor's, and now we both have psoriasis. It's kind of amusing. ;-)

LOL when my husband first woke up, I told him what had happened and he didn't believe me! I said "Dude, you're laying on a sheet of ice, you're going to freeze to death!" He said "nuh uh! gosh, just leave me alone!" lmao. It was hilarious... I would have to say the hardest part of narcolepsy is this: Any time we went to a family function or camping at my mom's 5th wheel, my husband would fall asleep. EVERY TIME. So on Halloween 2007, my SIL threw an M&M at him. He didn't budge. So she and my brother started throwing pieces of popcorn at him....no response. I was inside getting my daughter ready for bed when my mom came inside to tattle on my brother (which is hilarious in itself). Everyone thought that I was going to be super mad but, I tell you, I found out I can hang Fritos on nostrils, ears and lips like its no one's business! By the time he woke up, he was COVERED with Fritos, popcorn and M&M's. And yes, we have pictures...lol Since that one event, it has been a tradition that when (not IF) he falls asleep at a family function, that he is going to get decorated. Some examples, you ask?? Well, at my cousin's graduation party he ended up with looking like a giant baby due to the baby blankets, bottles, my nephew's stuffed puppy, and the best part: a little purple pacifier. The best would have to be at Christmas when he got covered in garland and *someone* (and I assure you I don't know who:D) managed to take his shoes and socks off and paint his toenails red! So since he's been diagnosed with narcolepsy its like what used to be just a ton of fun at family functions would seem to be making fun of the disabled. And I totally thought of Deuce Bigalow when the doctor told us....my little chuckle thankfully came out as a small cough.

I have a friend with pretty bad psoriasis. She has the same outlook as you, you have to have a sense of humor about it. She is constantly dealing with flare ups and almost always has some scaley areas on pretty much every area of her body. The scalp is the worst. She is really light hearted about it because, as you said, it could be a lot worse.

Does anybody have any information on the Evansville cut off scores? What they were last fall or anything??? Thanks for any info!

I got in Evansville's RN program last fall (2009) with a score of 206. I know my score was not the lowest so I think if you have 200 or above you will be fine. Last fall they had 180 applicants & took 30 RN & 20 LPN. This past spring 2010 they only had around 65 applicants & took 30 RN & 20 LPN. so lower scores got in this past spring, but they also had quite of few of them fail the 1st semester. Anyway, I'm sure you'll get in!

Thank you!! I have a 204 so I'm hoping that is good enough!!
