We have three retiring school nurses in my district. One middle and two high school. The mega part time position I have this year is gone next year and I would really really really like to get one of the positions opening. In my district, it's typically the principals that hire, which is weird, how would they know if I can do my job? But I do have pretty much every school nurse in the district behind me getting on, and several of them have written our director urging him to make sure I get considered before anyone else, plus the principal I work for...so we shall see.
I was pretty devastated when I didn't get the spot I was practically told (BY THE PRINCIPAL) last year that I was getting, so I am approaching this whole thing very cautiously. I've done some subbing on top of the p/t gig, and volunteered at all three levels..so we shall see.
Wish me luck, I'm tired of this having three jobs thing and would really like to go down to ONE position this fall!!!

Crossing my fingers for you!!
Thank you! The notice stays up until April 15, so interviews should be shortly after. I'm hopeful they don't wait too long, or God forbid, wait until the summer. Lol. I just want to know one way or the other.

Do they give preference to internal candidates? I would hope that means you get preference before anyone else. I applied for a school nurse position years ago that I really wanted and was definitely more than qualified for. They didn't tell me when I interviewed that the position had technically already been filled by an internal candidate and they had posted it b/c by law they have to post the opening to external candidates. I was really disappointed, but now that I am "in" I see why they do that. Good luck!

Yes, I got to apply as an internal candidate, and when I went to the job fair this week, our director (who had sat in at my last interview and had been the one to tell me I didn't get the positions last year) set aside his little checklist and said, "I know you're already getting an interview." We ended up chatting a little anyway, and he reminded me it will come down to who the principals feel is the best "fit" but I know the reason I didn't get picked last year was because the person who did had been subbing for the district for a few years and had done summer school to get her foot in the door. I am now in that spot myself, and it was nice to hear him thank me four times for getting them out of a bind with the p/t position I took this year.
I think I really have to muck the interview up not to get this position, but I am trying to be level headed because school politics are a weird thing.
I do know that no one else in the district is wanting to shift schools....so I'm really the only internal candidate this year.
