It's Finally Happened!

Nurses Relations

Published

I recognized someone from the picture they're using as their avatar. Moreover, it's someone I'm responsible for evaluating. And what they're posting is not consistent with a good attitude or safe practice. I can easily see why they're having so many issues with their colleagues. And the amazing thing is that clearly they think they're doing just great and everyone ELSE is the problem!

Now what? I'd already written up the evaluation, but the pages I've printed off allnurses.com complete with the person's picture clearly support my conclusions. Do I include them? Or shred them and pretend I've never looked at allnurses.com?

Will it help if I tell you that my boss reads allnurses religiously? She's probably also seen the picture and the posts.

Don't we come on here to vent??

^Disagree...as long as one doesn't post their full face pic, name, address, email address, etc, along with names of individuals they talked to, full play-by-play of situations at work, school etc...

I love being anonymous...if people actually think I'm their coworker, just TRY to guess...PM me and TRY...I WILL DENY!

Specializes in CCU, SICU, CVSICU, Precepting & Teaching.
But since it can't be proven, a lawyer would be all over that. Getting electronic records isn't something done for cheap, and unless this person's broken a law (ie, HIPAA) no facility is going to drop a mint on that. I don't know if they'd do it over HIPAA, either.

Who's crazy enough to come on here with their own photo? Don't we come on here to vent??

Unfortunately, this site isn't lacking for people crazy enough to come on here with their own photo. They're convinced they'll never say anything that someone will take offense to.

*sigh* I shouldn't be surprised.

There is your signature, after all (ooh, so catty...) :roflmao:

There are social media sites that pictures, when posted, become public. It takes a click of a mouse to save any picture you want to. People use pictures for a variety of reasons. So as far fetched as it seems, it could and does happen. And I think of that college football player who was duped for quite a long time from a completely made up situation, using all fake pictures. Happens every day.

In any event, I think that the ONLY thing that should be done is "counseling" on the policy regarding the use of work issues on public computer forums (and there are policies for this now, if not there should be), and a light "it would be in your best interest to take down anything that identifies you", do not identify your place of work on social media websites....whatever is specific to the policy.

I get that you were perhaps horrified at the content of the posts. Perhaps (or perhaps not) they were directed at you, what you work hard at, what you see in an entirely different light. However, posts are subjective, difficult to prove who wrote, and to somehow certify authenticity.

In my honest opinion, one shouldn't hold something against someone that you find on the internet. Or in these forums. I just don't believe it to be good managment practice. Workers need to know the policy, know what they can and can not participate in online--and by that I mean specific to identifying their place of work, as well as who they are, and any other nuances of a policy they should be aware of, and sign off on that it is understood. Only then can they be held accountable to the policy--and if there is just a picture, that is a far stretch....
