Basically yeah, parent just started to yell at me on the phone because LD broke her glasses and it's her third pair. Mother was ranting that she wants to talk to the student who broke them (She broke them herself) and wants them to pay for it.
I'm like, "I'm not the one in charge of this issue, but I suggest you talk to her teacher about situation."
It's not my fault your kid decided to take off her glasses when she knows not to take them off and sat on them on accident.

It sucks that she yelled at you, but I bet she is just beside herself with frustration. Glasses aren't cheap an insurance only covers a pair or two a year.

Yep. I'm lucky that I have a fund that I can use to order a new pair of glasses for students if they cannot afford them. (And Zenni Optical online is my saving grace there.)
The thing is that she got them online and still can get the pair for free from the eye doctor with Medicare.
But you're right they are hella expensive.
I explained to the student that glasses stay on our face and she needs to stop taking them on and off.

We have a student in second grade that always breaks her glasses. She is legally blind without them and was at risk of failing the second grade only a month ago because she was so far behind from not being able to see. It is beyond frustrating.
Does she have a spare always on hand? For students like this, it might be better to order two pairs. This is where Zenni Optical can definitely be a cheap resource.

Things that are my fault:
That I don't have spare clothes that LD thinks are fashionable enough to wear.
That you didn't submit paperwork on time despite ten reminders.
That your kid threw up.
That your kid has a fever on my thermometer.

This is an issue for which the teacher felt the need to send kid to the clinic? WHY? I am not the glasses fairy....I don't even have duct tape!
What is Zenni Optical?

Just this year a kid came in from recess, broke the plastic part of the frame that holds the lens in place. I superglued the frame back together, returned the glasses to the kid and all and all, I was pretty pleased with my repair job.
I got a call from his mom the next day, ripping me a new one...she said my repair "voided" the warranty they had for his glasses and now they were going to have to pay for new frames instead of having them replaced under warranty. Uh, sorry??

I have ordered glasses for students here. I just need the prescription. Most cost between $15 and $40 dollars, but I've never had a pair cost more than $85 and that was a heavy duty prescription.

I had something similiar happen - I no longer mess with glasses. Parents get a call - glass pieces are then placed in a baggie and given to student.
