Hi all,

it has been a while since I posted here.I passed my boards a year ago and still no luck finding a job.I am at a point where I am willing to move to any state/city that is hiring.I have a NY RN license.Anybody has any advice, thoughts, suggestions????

Thanx

I know nothing other than what news has said about NY (and their subsequent loss of 2,700 jobs recently or soon). OH isn't as well paying, but cost of living is less... And we're still hiring as far as I know...

Something else to consider is travelling RN - if you're thinking about moving to a different state anyways, shack up in a hotel, make MAD money, get stipents up the rear, and if you are great at what you do, you're golden! Some require you to do work in a hospital first, though, so look around and see what you can find!

Sometimes (although it's not everybody's cup of tea), but you can try LTC's, Rehab facilities, etc. Anything to get you in the door!

Travel Nurse wants at least a years experience however. Are you getting interviews at all? If no, relocating for a few years maybe the right choice. If you are getting interviews, may want to have some interview classes from friends or family and see if they can give you any tips during a interview. First impressions are everything. Also have lots of people look at your resume and critique it. don't get mad tho if they suggest a change.

Where in NY are you looking for work?? I'm very surprised that you have not found something in a year. Are you looking for something specific or are you open to options?? Have you had any interviews or callbacks??

I live in Upstate NY and I've been an RN for just over a year and have had steady work...in fact, just changed jobs. All of my classmates have found jobs also. It might just be your area that isn't hiring now.

Are you willing to re-locate?? Let me know....

Good luck to you.

Have you tried making a visit with the nurse mananger ,to the hospital{s} that you would like to work at. Maybe taking that extra initiative might get you noticed. Alot of resumes do not even get past human resources these days.

Good Luck and keep us posted, it will happen, dont give up

Try Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Binghamton NY. They are hiring new grads for June and July internship. Its a magnet hospital, catholic hospital (a little conservative but nice).

You can work there for a year then move on to better things. The last time I checked they gave tuition reimbursement. The pay is not too good about $21 but it really is better than being jobless. I have friends that work there.

I'm also surprised you haven't found work. Where I work we are short all the time. I work in LTC at 2 different nursing homes and they have orientation every month for new employees. I would say try a nursing home maybe the vent unit or rehab since your an RN. Good Luck.

If you're willing to move, Tulsa, OK has new grad jobs. I moved here for mine. PM me for more specifics....

I will be starting my program soon and this is my biggest worry! I am so concerned about graduating and not being able to find a job in OH or GA. I know that a lot of hospitals have hiring freezes for new grads and that is a tad bit unsettling.

I wouldn't let i scare me to much. The way I look at it a lot have post-poned retirement or went back to work due to the bad economy to help their family out. As soon as it turns around I beleive a lot will be hiring again. Also have to look at the "baby boomers" are getting up there in age. Just stay positive and don't be to picky at first.

Don't know how true this is, but I have heard that Texas is a good place for jobs. There are still people from my graduating class (May '09, same as you) who do not have jobs but the first ones to get jobs were the few that moved to Texas right after graduating. I think they started in June '09 or something, lucky ducks. Another girl I work with currently is moving there for other reasons, but she is not worried at all about finding a job - says there is quite an abundance down there actually. It took me forever to find a job, so I feel your pain. Hang in there and best of luck, wherever you end up.
