  1. You have a very unorganized scheduler. You basically will have to put your foot down. Tell her you must know your schedule at the very minimum the last day you work. Any changes will have to be told on the clock when you come back in. More than likely you are understaffed and people are taking vacations or personal days last minute. Instead of making people schedule vacations she/he does that instead to avoid paying overtime. Happens in every business. You will have to put your foot down or it will keep happening. And don't sign any write ups you don't agree with! Thats a unneeded paper trail in their favor if they decide to terminate you. As much as I hate this advice, worst case scenerio, look for a new job. Now calling you in to see if you want to work overtime is a different story. I'm fine with that. But once the schedule is posted, YOU must approve the change, not them. Otherwise your a escape goat, not a employee. And again, don't be scared of the threats to write you up. If you are on call, then its your job to be available. But being all call means certain times, not 24/7. Like its your weekend. Next weeks its Sara's, Next week Marks..etc. Must be realistic. Also keep everything in a profesional manner. You can totally disagree with your boss and all be good if you do.
  2. Was just thinking about what the above poster wrote. Employers use facebook, myspace, etc. and all these websites now when looking into apps. I like my life private as well. You will never will catch me posting things on the internet about me. I was shocked when I looked at my twins sisters one time. To some new grads who say they are having hard times finding a job, its something you may want to look into. I know its a rough time, but you want everything to look good nowadays.
  3. Hate to say it, but everything is turning into revolving around the Insurance Comapanies. To many people hired to save a buck rather than provide better care. I don't want to turn this into a political debate, but got to wonder if maybe the Government stepping in and setting standards is a bad thing? Otherwise I see the Insurance Companies keep raising rates every year like they do and cut you off everytime you need to make a claim. No wonder people don't have insurance if you look at there rates. If banks can get to big and cause economic diseaster, Insurance companies are just as big with just as many lobbyist. I can't help but wonder were all these "plans" money go. Wether it be auto, health, home or life. They try to weasel there way out of anything they can. However, if you want to open a policy they will gladly pull a chair up for you and offer you coffee.
  4. Like others have said, you need some time to adjust. Just try to figure out your schedule and stick to it. Changing your schedule you will always feel like this. Now, you still can take naps and that just like you did on day shift to help you relax, just don't over do it. Not sure what you mean about the "feel guilty" part. You still care. Thats all that matters.
  5. Nice link to help you prepare http://www.nursecareers.com/QuestionstoAnswer.html Nice link to ask interviewer. http://www.ultimatenurse.com/questio...-interview/54/ I googled and tons on info poped up. Best of luck!
  6. My friends who get up a hour early to meet at Mcdonalds? Stop acting like you quite your life if you take a night shift job. Its exactly the same. You make time for friends, don't leave them if they want to improve there life or get a new shift.
  7. I like what previous poster said. I think 8 years is great since they know you don't job hop. Just have a nice list of questions to ask them and look them straight in the eye and be confident. There was a person on here once who said she googled "questions for a nurse to ask at interview" and I was very impressed with the questions. The questions you ask shows you care. I think thats the most important part of the interview myself. Nice link to help you prepare http://www.nursecareers.com/QuestionstoAnswer.html Nice link to ask interviewer. http://www.ultimatenurse.com/questions-to-ask-in-your-job-interview/54/ I googled and tons on info poped up. Best of luck!
  8. EVERY job out there has cut back and have people doing more work than before. I went from hating to much overtime down to 32 hours a week for a LONG time. It got so bad I had to go into my plant managers office and straight up tell him I did not put in for this job to work less than 40 hours a week. I realized I would have to work some overtime when I took the job. However me working 32 hours just so you DON'T have to file unemployment is screwing me over and hurting my family now. So either start giving me 40 or lay me off. I am not playing this game. He got me 40 hours from there on out. So its just a bad time. There's a lot of excuses as to why not hiring. I can list them all in 2 hours on my break. It will get better. Also, my wife is starting school and I'm very supportive and I am after her when she gets benefits.
  9. Wrong. Your true friends will figure out a time with you to meet. It may be breakfast now instead of supper. If you keep to your schedule the entire time your on night shift you sleep 6-8 hours. The same as if you were on first shift. Drinking plenty of water is a great tip! Helps keep you awake. Ecspecially later on in the shift when you want no caffiene. Best of luck! Am cheering for you! Also have worked 7 years on night shift total.
  10. My wife and I started looking. No program we found is full time employment friendly. So we decided my wife was going to go to University of Cincinnati and start here BSN part time. In 3 years when were more financially secure she will go full time and quit her job or maybe part time till clinicals. The clinical part is a 8:30 to 4:30 and requires a ton of studying, so I read. So pretty much no employment is recommended. After she gets here BSN I may go to Hondoros School for my ADN.That of course if people hire new grads so she can start a job with benefits so I can quit. Only time will tell. Right now there is no nurse shotage, so I read which scares us.
  11. They are well known to be the beautiful, powerful workhorses on the farm. The heavy duty powerhouses. Gentle, Graceful, Powerful Giants in their field!
  12. That is great advice, however we both make what the max CNA can earn and still struggle with bills. I'm pretty sure I'm ready, she is very emotional and that what scares me about her. Since I carry the insurance, she has to go to school first. So hopefully on 5 to 6 years she will be done. In 3 years she will quit her job and go full time since we will be better off financially. About us, she crys when someone elses crys, she has never seen me shed a tear. I have been told I have no emotions, which of course I do, I just control them. She won't let anybody "run" her over, but can be talked into things. If I say no, its no. She does read these, so I'm not hiding anything we don't know. As far as the job a few things scare me, but nothing I can use to,
  13. My wife and I are going back to school for nursing. And my wife asked me if I read about anyone really hating their job as a nurse. I beileve we want to be bedside nurses of somesort, not sure what unit or the ER. I guess before she starts going back to school soon she wants to confirm she won't hate her job. She will be doing the BSN since she still has to work fulltime for the next 3 years , then quiting and going full time when more financially secure. We have a 12 year old son we adopted as well. After she is done I will quit and do the ADN in 3 years. After I get 5 years experiance we want to become travel nurses if son and parents are in good shape. So does anyone really hate their job or have any good advice for us? thank you!
  14. One thing about Ohio is that you pay for the city you live in pretty much. If they are that high they probably are a really good school system, live on golf courses, and beatiful landscaping thourghout the city. But 2 exits up the same house may be 3/4 the price because its in a different part. One example in my neck of the woods is Indian Hill. Really expensive houses for people with to much money. The land is very hilly, roads are really curvy and in kinda poor shape. But millionaires live there. Another is Mason, a $350,000 house there will cost you $250,000 to 280,000 - 10 minutes from it and in a different school district. Same acreage, etc. I-75 runs right thru these places and you have multiple areas to choose from. Contact a real estate agent and have them e-mail you some homes in different areas and talk with them. Or just do a on line search. Some popular ones in this area are Sibcy Cline, Century 21,Coldwell Banker, Remax. I used Remax when I sold mine and they were pretty good. Also areas around hospitals are nicer ones usually, but 20 minute drive will save you thousands. Can rate the school systems as well. I'm not a expert on that subject, but I'm sure a real estate agent gets asked that all the time.
  15. Not to scare you more, but lawyers specialize in this exact subject. Maybe can get you thinking about your own liability and your place of employments. http://www.carlbrownlaw.com/Practice-Area-Overview/Transportation-of-Disabled-Persons.shtml
