Hello all, since I didn't get in at VSCC, I thought I would look around and research other avenues of nursing. Has anyone ever tried to get a question answered or information from TSU? I think dealing with these people are some of the worst experiences I have ever had with a school. Most schools want you to come to their campus, but every person I dealt with at TSU could care less.
Every time I called, they wouldn't listen to what I needed and sounded too busy to help me, would pass me around to another person, tell me they don't know, they are not responsible for that. So I decided to quit calling and actually went to the campus on Friday.
I went to the nursing department and got treated even ruder. I was looking for someone to help look at my transcripts and discuss what I would need to get in and see what other options they had. The secretary was too busy on a personal phone call to help so I just stood there, she finally turned her back to me. I then walked around until I found, I believe one of the nursing directors, and she too seem too busy to deal with me. She was busy reading the newspaper on-line and barely turned her chair around to discuss anything with me. I handed her my transcripts and started asking questions but I could tell she did not want to help. She gave me no more information than I already had.
Has anyone else experienced this? I don't think I am going to waste my money on this school. By the way, I do plan to write the president of the university but if he is like the rest of his staff, it would be a waste of time!!

When I was a TSU student in the '90s, I recall long lines and resentment due to my pale skin and the assumption that I was receiving a minority scholarship (which wasn't true, but I digress).
I found that when dealing with the department of nursing, it was best to make appointments and avoid showing up unannounced. Hardly anyone is in campus on Friday if they can help it. When you make an appointment with a faculty member it will help you to avoid wasting your time and resources and reduce your frustration.
Much of this is true in the workplace as well. In the hospital where I work, much of the salaried workforce is out of the office on Friday afternoon, taking comp time for having worked over so much during the week.
Check your pm.
Good luck to you in your studies.

I have yet to hear good things about TSU but I am sure there are some people out there that would say good things. I am not one to bash schools. I was told the other day that TSU is no longer supporting a BSN nursing degree but still has a 2 year degree. I am at Aquinas and the nursing office is always so happy to hear from you and does everything to help you along the way. If Aquinas is an option, check it out.
Makes me wonder if their faculty members are starting to retire & they're having difficulty finding replacements?

I saw this thread and realised I am not the only one! I have emailed at least ten times, called at least thirty times over the past three months (because I am out of the area I cannot go there personally). After four months of waiting a person got in contact with me who is living at my old address and TSU had been sending all my admissions information to my old addres! What in the world! everytime I call this man's voice comes on the phone and says to go to the website (which is not helpful) and then the phone hangs up. I'm about to give up.:angryfire
Amazing. I read about difficulty in getting a response from TSU. I went to the website & found the listing for faculty. I e-mailed a faculty member and the response to my e-mail was in my mailbox this morning.
:thnkg:
I hate that some faculty and staff are less than helpful. Sadly, it happens just about everywhere you go.
Well I am amazed! Maybe it's not meant for me to go there? I'm going to keep trying!

Well if you are looking at nursing schools in the Tennessee area I would recommend UTM. I am currently a nursing student there (University of Tennessee at Martin) and enjoy it. It's a lot of work, but I'm sure it will all pay off. It's about 2 1/2 hours west of Nashville

I've heard MTSU has a great nursing program.

I don't have any personal experience with TSU but I do know that VSCC broke their affliation off with TSU for similar problems and that TSU graduates have a very low passing rate for NCLEX.

That is not true about VSCC. I am going to Vol State and I am in the Pre-Nursing 2 year TSU program. I believe that they at one time stopped having an ASN program thru TSU but they have had it again since I believe 2004. I could be wrong about the year. I don't know if I will stay with the program. It all depends on the school that accepts me. I am going to apply to five different schools and whoever accepts me is the one I am meant to attend. I have talked to people in the program at both the main campus and Vol State and have had no problems. They also were very helpful and nice to me. I have heard that they are very disorganized tho. Keep a copy of all your records that you send them.
As the saying goes "things can change at the drop of a hat". A couple of years ago when I was still working M/S the students told me about how glad they were that VSCC had broken off the affiliation with TSU. I apologize for giving out incorrect information since obviously that has now changed.
The low passing rate for NCLEX of TSU students is a very well known fact around here.
My daughter is attending TSU to get her doctorate, I have nothing personal against the school.
