Is this unacceptable pay??

Hey everybody, this is my first post. I had an interview today at a LTCF and was told the starting pay is $9.25. I've been reading on here that it's usually at least $10 something. They seem pretty interested in me but I applied to about 5 other places today too - including where we did our clinicals. I have no idea what the other places pay rate is. She told me she would call me mid next week and let me know. I'm hoping one of the places I applied to today will call in the meantime. I'm a cna but I haven't taken the state test yet. I'm scheduled to take the state test on the 23rd of april ...then ill be an stna - which in ohio is definately preferred in most places. A lady at hospice called me today too she wants to interview me but says she has to wait until I take the state test. So I'm basically lost. I don't know if I should accept this $9.25 job but if I did I would be so disappointed if I got a better offer right after...or is this pay too low and I should wait until something better comes along. Lots of questions lol...answer whichever one(s) you want! thanks guys!:wink2:

Here in north carolina where i live. The average pay is 7.something. So yeah i would say that is good. But the cost of living is not as high here as other places. Unless you just want to live an expensive life.

I'm in OH too and make $1.40/hr less than that.

It all depends on the company and how they work, in my op :). I thought I really wanted to work at an ltc where I did volunteer work. Turned out it was owned by a large company, had a three call outs we don't care the reason your fired policy. They made no effor to work with school schedules ect. The larger private place I work for pays less then I would get but work with anyones schedule. Their willing to change hours for babysitting issues, school each semester ect ect. We even have an employee emergency fund. So its not what your making but how well the company fits with you, in my op :)

Haha! I make $8 in small town Utah. It sucks, but ya gotta do what ya gotta do.

I've heard the average pay in the St.Louis nursing homes is $8.00 per hour. I'm going to apply at a facility that pays new inexperienced CNA's $9.00 per hour and after one year, it will increase to $10.00 per hour.

^^^^ yes I have to keep in mind Im not state tested yet and have NO experience so its probably not that bad. I had my second interview on monday. I'm acting like ive already gotten the offer ....;)

I've seen cna pay range from 7.00hr to 9.50 hr with no exp here in tn.

Your pay basically depends on where you live in the country, experience and your state certification. Personally I think that is a fairly low salary. My mother is a CNA and she makes about $16.00 or $17.00 per hour. Try your hardest to get into a hospital they pay more and the benefits are great. Plus remember when you go on interviews, sell your self, and if asked for your desired salary start high; roughly 2 or 3 dollars per hour higher than the normal range, who knows they make take this into consideration. Starting salaries are important because it may take you a long time to increase your base salary; especially due to our current situation with the economy!

I applied at one nursing home for their CNA Class and they were paying around $7.60. That seems a little sad to me. Anyway, I was not one of the 9 picked out of 15 for the class. This was my second interview in a year and both places would not choose me for thier classes. I wonder what I did wrong? Is it because I did not know people there like the other candidates? Is it because I am a 40 year old man, with only an A.A. degree? I have no idea. I am not giving up though.

Wow... i dont know where you guys are looking at but where i get paid i get paid about 15 dollars an hour...i work in a hospital too....i havent even been there two years yet!

What state are you in? I am in Tennessee and the pay scale here is diplorable.

Texas -CNA lowest I have heard of $8 per hour. Most places start $8.50-$9.00, some places offer weekend/shift differential $10.50 per hour. Head CNAs make $10.50-$13.50 per hour. Since CNA is not my primary source of income - I work agency and make up to $ 13.50 per hour and have done private care for $ 14.00 per hour. The pay :twocents: for the work I think - that is why we have such a shortage of CNAs and Nurses.
