The type of schedule I'm referring to is where one would work 2 weeks on and then be off for 2 weeks and then the cycle starts again; or work 3, 4, 5, 6 weeks etc. and be off that same amount of weeks that was worked? Catch my drift? Is there variations to this type of scheduling? Any nurses with this type of scheduling? Thank You!
Federal laws exempt healthcare facilities and allow a 14 day pay period without overtime for 80 hours and less.
Healthcare facilities are NOT exempt from the FLSA. What you are describing is the "8 and 80" rule and it only applies if the employer also pays overtime after 8 hrs in one day.
One scheduling option at one place I worked was 3 12s, then 3 days off, 3 12s on, then 3 days off, etc. I tried it and never felt quite rested enough. I ended up working 12 hour shifts that ran from 7 pm --> 7 am Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday every week, unless I chose to use personal days or vacation time. By agreeing to work every Friday meant I fulfilled my "weekend" duty.

I'm sitting here trying to think how they get around the 40 hour work week OT as per fair wage and labor....you are either 8/80/2wk or 40/hr/wk. Even if they are 8 hour shifts...that's 112 hours. Unless they pay OT.
