Hi everyone!
I am registered to take A&P 2 and Microbiology this summer. I keep hearing I should take one or the other but not both over the summer. I can't decide. I really want to take both because I have the best professors lined up and neither teach in the fall. However, I need A's in both courses and summer semester is half the length of a full semester. I don't want to over do it and then end up with bad grades in one or in both but at the same time I think I can pull it off getting A's in both during the summer b/c I have good professors and I will put in the effort. I do have 2 little ones at home though, a 4 y.o. and 1 y.o. Can anyone weigh in on this and tell me if it is a good idea or bad idea or BTDT? I appreciate it!
Thanks,
Robin

Oh my goodness! Your situation is exactly the same as mine, right down to the ages of the kids! I say go for it! I have to get my classes finished this summer if I want to start in the Fall.

I think the term is a little strong. You will live no matter what happens with either course :) . As for whether you can manage both courses at the same time and do well in them - it depends on what else you have going on in your life. e.g. Do you have a job? What logistics are involved in getting to your classes? (e.g. are commute time and/or babysitter issues potential problems?) Do you have time/space for several hours of dedicated study when you won't be interrupted to take care of your kids' needs for most days (or nights) out of the week? Are you good with time management and memorization? If you feel that you're up to it - then it doesn't hurt to try both and you can always drop one if it gets to be too overwhelming.

If they are your only two classes, then go for it. I took them both at the same time during the spring semester and it felt like forever! Just stay focused and get them over with!

Not necessarily impossible, but make certain you keep track of the drop date in case you find that you have bitten off more than you can handle and you decide to bail. Good luck.
Unfortunately the drop date is the week after classes begin. It is so soon after b/c summer semester is only 8 weeks to begin with. I am really waffling. I can't decide what I want to do. I WANT to do both but I just don't know how hard it would be on me and my kids/husband to do them.

I think it's a great way to great practice for the kind of studying you have to do in nursing school!!! I don't know if you are already in nursing school yet, but at the university where i went to school you had to take those classes prior to entry. A&P was the hardest prereq class I had to take prior to nursing school and required the most studying I ever had to do prior to nursing school. I think you will do fine in those classes but A's will be difficult. My teacher for A&P was sooooo hard though, I don't think that anyone had an A in her class. I ended up with a B and I felt lucky because we had people dropping out mid-semester because there was no way they could pass the class. Best of luck to you!!!

My best suggestion would be absolutely not. You would absolutely be putting your grades at risk. It's absolutely not worth it. A&P 1 shouldn't be too bad, but micro is extremely conceptual and if you don't understand what's going on, you will not pass the class.
Thank you I really appreciate it! I am just going to take 1. I decided after reading some posts on this forum about micro that taking both would be insane. I am pretty certain I want to take the micro and drop the anatomy but I am uncertain. I took A&P 1 last semester and it was insane, I can't imagine taking taking that course over the summer. The micro course is at a MUCH better time for me during the day, too. I commute a long way and have to drop the kids at the grandparents before class so I'd be getting up at 5am to get to class on time with the A&P but with the Micro I'd only need to get up at my regular time (7am) and not disrupt the kids' schedules. In a way I think taking the micro over the summer may be better- just get it over with. But on the other hand maybe I'd be better with the A&P 2 b/c at least I'd know what I would be getting into with that class. It's tough. Well, they are both REALLY hard classes. If you had to pick one to take over the summer what would be your choice???

I did it and it was tough! Especially at the end. I also had a 9 month old baby at the time. It was worth it though because now I'm entering the 3rd semester of an RN program and I'm almost done! Good luck!
