Is it smart to take Physio and microbio at the same time?

Published

Hi,

I'm attending a community college here in California and after this semester, I've completed about half of my prereqs already. I may sound impatient but I just want to get into a nursing school by fall 2011 and the only classes that I need to take are those two and an intro to socio class. I know it's up to the person if s/he can handle the workload but I'm not too confident on my study skills. I wouldn't have gotten an A on my Anatomy class if our prof didn't give out a ton of extra credits.

Should I go one step at a time to prevent jeopardizing my grade?

Any advice would be much appreciated. Thank you!

If you don't think you are capable of knocking out As in both classes, I would play it safe and take them one at a time.

I would not take two science classes together. I have taken A&P I and College Algebra together in ten week course....It was incredibly hard! Right now I have an A average in A&P, but a weak B in College Algebra. My A&P professor just tricked us on our final, now I think that I only have a B. I would highly advise not to take them at the same time.

I agree with everyone Take your time and do it right. No point in rushing through and ending up with mediocre grades.

Take the courses separately since science is pretty hard for most people and taking two science courses is extremely difficult even for me. I get good grades.

It depends on how well you retain information. My friend is currently taking Cell and Molecular biology, Human Physiology, and Human Anatomy. She has A's in all of them. But for someone like me, I could never take that many sciences at one time and get stellar grades like that. So again I think it depends on how well you study and retain information.

Thank you very much for all the thoughts and advices!

Well, in nursing school, you will have to take multiple difficult classes at the same time.

I took physio and micro at the same time, along with two other classes and 40 hours of work per week, and I got As. If you want something bad enough, you can make it happen... you just might lose some sleep and free time. Starting the program sooner was more important to me than a bunch of free time, and now I am in the program and so incredibly happy.

Only you know your own limits. If you think you could get As in both, I'd say go for it.. people do it all the time and do just fine.

Your post is very inspiring and encouraging, I actually changed my spring schedule yesterday to accommodate only Physiology but now I'm thinking of redoing it again. Although after some time of browsing through the site, I figured I might just stick to the schedule I have now because I doubt I could pull off an A on both if I take them at the same time x__x I used to go to a university (withdrew due to financial reasons) and I had mostly B's and C's for my classes, and they probably aren't as bad as taking Physio and Micro at the same time.

Or maybe I'm just a little jealous because my sister recently just got accepted to a nursing school right off the bat without being placed on a waitlist, etc. Her grades were fairly okay though, she got a C on Anatomy, and B's on Micro and Physio, which was all the more reason why I wanted to push myself harder just so I could get into a nursing school earlier than her (my competitiveness is out of place ._. )

You just have to know yourself and how you learn sciences. I took A&P 1 same time as micro, during 8 week summer term and got As in both. But I am someone that picks up sciences very easily, especially with a hands on lab. If you are someone that an A in one science is diffucult, and take a lot of studying to get an A, then would be best to split up the courses if you feel you have to get As. If you usually do well in sciences then both at the same time is definitly manageable.

I recently took AP 2 and Micro together and did just fine. The content was completely different so I didn't feel confused. I made an A in Micro and a B in AP 2 but that's normal for me. You could easily do an A-just depends on how good you are in Science.

If you want something bad enough you can do it! My last semester I took Micro, College Algebra, English 111, and Nutrition(which was actually the most difficult of the 4 classes for me but I took it online). I managed to make As in all of the classes! I was so proud of myself. I never thought I would make that good of grades with all of the work I had to do. I did it and it just made me realize that I can do anything.
