So my employer wants to give me a verbal warning for calling in sick, that's fine, but I work noc shift and management want me to see them in the daytime when they are there and off my work time. I have a night shift supervisor who is capable of educating me regarding this. Is it really required for me to come in off the clock to be disciplined, can't the supervisor do that?? I emailed them regarding this and they just sent me another email that says to set a time to meet and didn't answer my question. I don't know anyone that would come into work off the clock to get in trouble.

There is no reason if your manager is hell bent on seeing you personally that he/she can't come in early one morning and talk to you before your shift is over. Hell no I wouldn't come in on my day off for this. Save those emails, because I have the feelling that refusing to come in on your day off might result in an avalanche of problems. Have a back bone and say no.

I think you should be careful about refusing to come it. It sounds like there could be more issues in the future.

What time do you get off in the morning? If your shift ends at 7:30am, perhaps your manager could meet you halfway by agreeing to a meeting with you at 7:45am or 8:00am.

I bet they want HR there too. HR probably comes in later.

Are you a union hospital? If so, do not go into this meeting without your rep. Additionally, I would clock in, as you are "called back in" to have this meeting.
Look at your policy on calling out sick. Make sure you followed it. It amazes me that no one wants anyone to come into work ill (in theory) however, nurses get disciplined because of it.
I would, if time permits, go to your MD, and see if you can get a note about this illness to bring with you. Cover all of your bases.
Yes, unfortunetely, they can call you in at any point to have a meeting. Unless there's contract language (if you are union) that states this can't happen.
Be prepared, as a verbal warning for following policy (assuming that you did) is something I would have an issue with.

Yes they can call you into be disciplined. To refuse may result in losing your position.

my manager is the only one in the hospital that comes in after 7 am (I was a float nurse for a while and was on all the different units at one point or another). She wanted to have a meeting with me - so I went down time after time and was told repeatedly (she runs our floor and the one above it which is where her office is) she doesn't come in until 0830. Sorry - not waiting. Finally after her 3rd email to me I (sort of passive agressively) said "ok see you at 0730" - she finally got the hint.
oh and our HR starts at 7

Clock in when you come for your meeting. It is a mandatory work activity.
