Hi all,
After an unblemished 23 year career as an RN in SC I screwed up in 2005. How it came about is a long winding tale but the end result is I admitted and was convicted of 1 count of misdemeanor filing a false medicaid claim. I did probation, paid restitution and a fine. my license was suspended and I was placed on the OIG exclusion list for 5 years. During that time my husband was diagnosed with ALS and as his caregiver the last thing on my mind was my career. Once widowed I felt too defeated to try to repair the damage but earl this spring decided to crawl out of my hole and live again. I approached the BON, completed the requirements for reinstatement and now have my temporary license pending completion of an RN Refresher course which I am finishing up clinicals for. I have been removed from the OIG exclusion list as well. My fear is can I get hired? I have some interviews next week. In my former life I was never NOT offered a job but will anyone give me a chance with this black mark on my record? Any words of wisdom or testimonials out there?

I am curious what position you were in to be filing medicaid claims? All I know is you are not the only one who has ever "screwed up." Best of luck with your interviews.

I don't know what will happen; certainly other nurses with worse offenses than yours have gone on to get jobs and make positive changes in their lives.
I would like to wish you luck.

You might never be able to work with Medicare/Medicaid patients again. That still leaves plenty of other jobs: education, private insurance nursing staff, etc.
