Is it legal for your boss to dictate where you poop?

Updated:   Published

As in, there are two employee restrooms, and the boss has requested that if you're going to poop, you should use the restroom in the "dirty utility area" because of odor. And if you DO poop in the non-poop bathroom, you'll be "talked to."

Asking for a friend.

How could they prove you didda doody?

I tell ya ... the subjects coming up on this forum lately. :^) But to answer your question, I think it's ridiculous that the boss is telling you where to poop.

I cant believe that I went through whole poop thread and that some people took the OP seriously ;)

I'll tell you why they took her seriously. She is a long time poster, has more than 12,000 posts and 97,000 views. That's not the mark of a troll.

He must have a pretty good position if he has time to even pull off a poop. I will poop wherever the urge strikes.

I would enjoy the "talk" about pooping in the proper place, it would be hilarious!

Don't dictate where I poop.

This thread has gotten too gross.

Thank you.

Swear to dog, I'm not making this up.

Hmmm... personally, I don't think anything can be said about what bathroom you use to poop unless it was specifically for patients. I view it as a request and her/his preference as to where you go to the bathroom. Have you specifically asked why the request is being made and the rationale behind his/her request Other than it stinks and stinks up the area? I am curious to know what would happen if you were to ignore the request and continue to use the bathroom?? Would you end up being written up for insubordination? Unless there is a policy of some sort that you cannot use a particular restroom, I think it would be a hard sell in leading you to termination. Maybe this would be a good anonymous question to ask your HR department :)

Like I said in the OP, I was asking for a friend. It's not my particular place of work.

But the rationale was that the bathroom is right next to desks where people work, and it stinks up the area, I guess.

I take all of klone's posts seriously but I did think the asking for a "friend" was pulling our collective legs.

Guess not.

Anyway, to add to the wealth of experience with work/poop encounters that don't involve a performance evaluation......

We have one bathroom in our PACU that we share with Pre-Op, OR and Day Surgery. Can get pretty busy especially after meals. (I sometimes go out to the waiting room and use their bathroom, just sayin'). So it is a real wrench in the bowl when a pre-op patient needs to use OUR bathroom. Make that a doubled ended wrench when they are on isolation and the BR has to be shut down until Housekeeping gets around to swabbing it with a little bleach.

Maybe a bit off topic, but last month's unit meeting concluded with the reminder to the male nurses to put the toilet seats down after use. We also have a "Recognize STD" chart hanging on the wall behind the toilet...guess we never can be too careful.
