I am in negotiations with this hospital in CT.

They are offering the salary of $26/hr (I have six years experience as a RN), with shift differential of $3.00/hr through the week. Five eight-hour shifts per week.

Their "sign-on" consists of "$2,000", which you get in your first check ~ oh, but it TAXED, you see......and you only receive $1300.

(which, I presume, you would have to turn around and report as income at the end of the year so it can be taxed again.)

This sounds VERY very lame.

I have worked in Kentucky and made this much, and the cost of living is MUCH, much lower.

I doubt if a person could even LIVE ON THAT in Connecticut.

Any info appreciated....... (thinking of all the stuff I'll buy)

:rotfl:

I liked the bigger font myself.

I just assumed a larger font would be easier to read.......that kindof makes sense to me, but what do I know, LOL.

Thanks for the posts....:coollook:

I'll be relocating soon. I won't get any help with any relocation fees because I work for a company that has us work from home. So I can take my job with me.

My salary stays the same no matter where I chose to resettle. But it's worth it to me to keep my job. I love working from home.

Look on the bright side. We have a profession that allows us to move around freely and find a job in a new area. Many just aren't so lucky these days.

I am just wondering..........what kind of nursing work do you do from your home? I am thinking about part time work to supplement my income with 2 kids in college next year. Maybe you can help me!

Thanks

Just a suggestion:

Large fonts are bad for people w/monitors or computers who can't handle them on-screen. They are also bad for people me who are far-sighted. It kills me to read large fonts and I am sure it does, others, too. Not to mention, it takes up bandwidth to do so. Just my opinion.

Good luck on the move, and the decision you make. I hope for the best for you.

sunstreak,

i feel compelled to speak of the most pressing issue here:

i think your font was fine and was nothing overbearing....sheeesh.

when anyone relocates, there are so many factors and variables to be taken into consideration.

$5000 is meaningless if the hospital is poorly managed and has high turnover.

and i agree you have much to offer as a nurse; you're in demand and never settle for 2nd best.

much luck to you.

Congratulations on your new job, and negotiations! I've never gotten a relocation OR sign on bonus, so I think you're doing great.

As for the font, in message board etiquette extra large is considered shouting, (visually), don't intend to criticise, but yes, smaller is easier for most of us. Thanks for switching :)

Unfortunately in Idaho, this wage sadly to say also sounds about right... Nurses just don't get paid fairly!!

that is an interesting question...i guess you could hire on as a nurse consult for some meds that the manufacturer would have you listed to call for problems and you could do that on line or on the phone....a lot of people get home with their meds and have forgotten half of what the md/pharmacy told them...or the home caregiver wasn't there when the discharge or office visit occured and they might need some backuip info...

i am sure that there are a lot of things that could use your expertise..put your thinking cap on yo probably have a lot to offer GOOD LUCK

look at the 401k/403b plans. my employer matches .50 cents for every dollar saved, up to 6% of my salary starting third year of employment. my employer added $1,400+ matching to my account for 2003 , all non-taxable income.

don't pass up this free money if you plan to stay in a location for a few years.

I think you done good for yourself. If only more nurses would stand up for themselves and DEMAND competitive salaries that reflect their professions worth there wouldn't be nurses scraping just to make ends meat! I sincerely thank you for not settling. We future nurses thank you for paving the way! :)

Ciao,

I do telephone triage from home. But starting next month, I'll switch to disease management, still from home, just a different division of the same company.

Look under the telephone triager section board here. I posted lots about my job there.

I'm making under $22 in a rural hospital in maine
