Next semester is my last semester before I apply for nursing school and I have all three of these sciences to finish. I was a Social Work major before so I am behind on sciences. I think I can do it, but was wondering if anyone else has and how hard it was?
It all depends on your learning style, as we all learn at different rates. Some are able to grasp all the info the first lecture and barely study. My situation - I had to really study and put much time into it. I was a single mom in my late 30s. Our anatomy and physiology were split up. I took anatomy in the fall, as it was only offered then. Our physiology was in the spring. I would advise to try only one or two max science course at a time. I had anatomy, psychology, nutrition and sociology the first semester. The following semester was physiology, chemistry. My last semester nursing courses were micro, micro lab and physiology lab.(can't recall why I didn't take physiology lab while taking the lecture). My last semester was the lowest GPA of all the semesters that I took.
Also, look at the GPA requirement to get into the nursing school. My required GPA was a 3.5. I made it, but it wasn't easy.
Good Luck.
If you really need them and think you can manage then why not? It's not the best option obviously but if you dont then doesn that mean you have to wait a year to get into nursing?
My daughter is taking A&P and micro this semester to get into nursing, and she wont even be considered if she doesnt take these both together (she changed majors so that is why she hadnt taken either yet). I wish she could take them one at a time but if she did then she would have to go another year of school for the nursing, and that means MORE MONEY MORE TUITION!
So do what you have to do to achieve your goals and just plan on spending a lot of time studying! But remember its only ONE semester and it will be over before you know it!
Don't let others tell you what your limitations are because no one knows what you're capable of doing better than you. Good luck and happy studying!
She asked for our opinion, so we are giving it to her! Seems the majority believe it would be a daunting task to undertake (as do I). My biggest concern would be my GPA in order to get into the nursing program.
Personally, I would not risk my GPA. The programs around here are extremely competitive and a B in any of those classes could really hurt your GPA and your acceptance chances. I have taken two sciences at a time, plus a gen Ed, and got all As, but don't risk it with three sciences together.
Good luck.
At my school all three of those are lab sciences. That alone makes each of them quite time consuming. I would be concerned about whether I could be successful in all 3 in one semester. Most schools are highly competitive and a B or two in those all important science pre-reqs can materially affect your chances of acceptance.
I took APII and Chemistry at the same time and it about did me in! I knew I needed A's in all my science classes so there was a ton of pressure and the classes were already hard enough. I personally would not add micro to it. But you have to determine how much time and energy you have to give.

I took A&P II and Microbiology together while also working full-time. However, I already have my bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, and I thought that they were easy classes. I think it depends on where you're taking them and how strong your science and math background is.
