Hi. I am going to school to get my MSN to work as an NP in cardiology. When I do a job search for cardiac NP.. I get barely any returns... lots for regular nursing, but VERY FEW for cardiac NP's. What's the job market look like for NP's who wish to work in cardiology??
Thanks! Epona

There is a school that specifically does Cardiology for NP? Where are you going to school?

I know some schools offer a Cardiology Track within their Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP) programs. When I did a Google search for 'cardiology nurse practitioner' I got 936,000 hits. Not that those are all jobs, but I think you could definitely carve out a niche in cardiology.
Thank you everyone! I am looking to go to school in the Mid-Atlantic region. Either NC, SC, VA or MD. Hmmmm... thanks for the tip on the job hunting. I did nurse practitioner and cardiology. Did not get much of a response. I will try what you did. I just wanted to see if there was a real need for this before I put "all my eggs in one basket." Cardiology is what I want to do and I am researching the field.
Any good NP schools you recommend for cardiology?? Or do I just go the Acute Care route??
Thank you! Epona

Duke offers a cardiology tract in either the FNP or ACNP program. Hope this helps.
Thank you everyone!! :) Epona

I think you bring up legitimate concerns about "putting all your eggs in one basket." I was wanting to do an ER NP (one is in Chicago). However, I decided against it since I was unsure if I could get a job. Instead I went with the adult health clinical nurse specialist and had several interviews and two offers. Its slim pickings where I am located.

WE have a cardiology NP. She takes night call for the cardiology practices. We also have cardiac clinical nurse specialists

This is getting to be a huge area, for cardiology as well as specialist heart failure NPs - especially with all the literature showing better patient outcomes with nurse-run outpatient clinics!
I am pretty sure Vanderbilt also has a HF/cardiac NP specialization.

I met a new Duke grad from this program recently. He highly recommended the program. Good luck in your pursuits!
