Hi,
I am an RN new grad (graduated in August, 2009). I had always wanted to move to California after graduation and work in critical care. However, with the odd time of my graduation (neither May or December) along with the economy, I was unable to make the move. I now work in a Telemetry floor in TX. Despite the setback, I still want to move to California after I have one year experience, and preferrably landing a job in the ICU. Is it easier for someone with a year experience to find a job in California?
Thank you!

It may depend on where you go. I had a year exp and I couldnt find a job in the Bay Area. You could always try a travel agency and see what happens.
Thanks for your reply! Before I graduated from nursing school, I did a lot of research. I probably won't attempt to find a job in the Bay area even after a year's experience~~~ I am thinking about Los Angeles, San Diego, Bakersfield, or other regions.

Bakersfield or LA would probably be your best bet for finding a job.
San Diego is difficult and wages are low in regards to cost of living.
Bay area is insane all around.

Gee I live in San Diego and I was just going to say why don't you come to San Diego? I thought the job prospects here were good.

You definitely need to have a guaranteed job offer lined up before you move to CA. In addition, I would have at least 2 years of experience before taking the plunge to move.

And it's really vexing to those of us who've lived here all our lives to see the flood of people coming after good pay, strong unions, and mandatory staffing ratios.

Bay area is definitely dry as a bone. I wish I would have read this before making the plunge and moving out here. Now, a month later, no money and no job and I'm about to take a job outside CA just to keep up my skills and get more experience.
