  1. If you have not heard from Baylor, you might want to call them to verify. Just double check to make sure you did not miss that important email or phone call.
  2. Hi Pink4, I have only worked in the ICU for a little over a year.
  3. Hi SICRN, I am in the same situation with you. Applied but have not heard anything back yet. Good luck to you!:)
  4. Hi BaylorChick, you already interviewed and accepted? I have not even heard anything about the interview yet-- guess that is not a good sign.
  5. Still the same question. Anyone applying for 2013 entry???
  6. I am planning to apply to these two schools this year. BTW, is math (Statistics) considered as a science class? I encountered this problem when viewing Baylor's online application.
  7. I went to nursing school in Hampton Roads and moved to Texas immediately after graduation. I started as a new grad in a hospital in a small city in Texas and my pay was $22 and some change. My classmates who graduated with me mostly started at $20 in Hampton Roads hospital. After working 1.5 yrs in my first job, I moved to Houston and now work in the Texas Medical Center where lots of big hospitals are located; my currently pay (less than 2 years experience) is $28.25 base plus shift differential. Cost of living is actually cheaper than Hampton Roads. The only thing that kills me is the hot hot summer here.
  8. Hi HouTX, Thanks for your good advice. I am working on my resume now and I will do as you suggested- make it detailed and show the potential employers what I have been doing on my job. For example, instead of simply saying "patients requiring continuous cardiac monitoring," I would list more detailed patient population: chest pain/MI, pre-/post- CABG, angioplasty, cath lab, heart failure, etc. I would consider hospitals in the suburbs- actually I am planning to move to Sugar Land or Katy; I would rather work within the city I live in at first. Learning the metro area and fighting the rush hour at the very beginning would be too overwhelming for me. Thanks again for your reply. I will keep you posted on my job search.
  9. Hi all, I've been an RN on Tele/ICU step-down floor for nearly a year and half now. Currently I work in Southeast Texas and am looking to move to Houston in March. I really hope to get an ICU position in the Texas Medical Center. While I was job hunting as a new grad back in 2009, I was told by a nurse recruiter that tele experience is helpful if one day I wish to work in the ICU; however, I feel at a disadvantage without any prior ICU experience. All the ICU nurses out there, do you see new hires without prior ICU experiences? Thanks!
  10. Thanks for your reply! Before I graduated from nursing school, I did a lot of research. I probably won't attempt to find a job in the Bay area even after a year's experience~~~ I am thinking about Los Angeles, San Diego, Bakersfield, or other regions.
  11. Hi, I am an RN new grad (graduated in August, 2009). I had always wanted to move to California after graduation and work in critical care. However, with the odd time of my graduation (neither May or December) along with the economy, I was unable to make the move. I now work in a Telemetry floor in TX. Despite the setback, I still want to move to California after I have one year experience, and preferrably landing a job in the ICU. Is it easier for someone with a year experience to find a job in California? Thank you!
  12. I just called VA Board of Nursing and I PASSED and license was issued today! Good luck!
  13. Thank you for your reply! I tried the "trick" last night after reading your post and I got the same pop op. I hope it works! Good luck to you too!
  14. Hi caring touch, I took my NCLEX today as well. I also very nervous and VA board of Nursing does not participate in the quickresults service. So you tried the PearsonVue trick the same day you took the exam?
  15. I am relocating to Texas from Virginia. I will be working at Christus St. Elizabeth hospital. I really look forward to that! The job market in VA is not really good right now, although that is not the reason I wanted to relocate. As I started job hunting a few weeks ago (I just finished my finals yesterday and my convocation is tomorrow), I was looking at Texas. I told myself that if I could not get a job in Texas, I would look locally in Southeast Virginia-- because I thought it would be much easier to get a job locally and that would be my bottom line. However, as graduation nears, not many of my classmates have found job here whereas I was offered the job at Christus St Elizabeth two weeks ago. So, yes, try some not-so-major cities at TX and maybe you can find a great job! Good luck!
