There is a posting for a position available at a local physicians office, they are looking for a nurse to assist with Cosmetic Surgery. It says, "resumes without photos will not be considered" So I cant help but wonder, if you are more qualified but someone else looks more the part, who gets the job? And who would you want taking care of you after surgery?
Actually, the laws about discrimination do not apply to everyone. I believe it has to do with, for one thing, the size of the workplace (number of employees). And there are other reasons for exemptions, too. Also, it is shocking, but did you know that Congress exempts itself from these laws?
Personally, I can understand why a plastic surgeon, who is selling BEAUTY, wants beautiful staff. You wouldn't expect a car salesman to drive an old junker, would you? Or a men's suit salesman to wear ratty clothes?
Ever had a hair stylist that looked like they just rolled out of bed and hadn't washed their hair in weeks - I have..yikes - you're not touching my hair!
Even if it was discrimination and even if you could prove it was and even if you could push the issue until you finally got hired....why would you want to? Would be a miserable job. Therefore it's really not worth the time of worrying about it.
All joking aside. It IS a form of discrimination.
Discrimination I agree with...
The employer is just asking for a photo so there is no discrimination
implied but you know damn well they are and it's going to be legal.
It's like sifting through resumes in general. Too lengthy and it is discarded.
Too short, discarded. Now they have your mugshot there to look at and
you're discarded. You have to project a positive image.
If you don't believe that image means something then you're wrong.
Tattoos, obesity, smokers, nontraditional piercings, hair color, makeup
all are discriminated against. The task would be for you to prove it.
I have never, EVER hired anyone with a visible tattoo. No one with
piercings in they're nose or eyebrow. Certainly not their tongue.
Blue or other crazy hair or makeup... um, NO and they HAVE applied.
Smokers... hell no. They need constant smoke breaks. I also have
not hired someone that is pregnant either due to the fact they'll
need maternity leave and I need a position filled by someone that
will be there to WORK.
Criticize me as you will. That's the reality and if you think I'm the only
one I'm not. The way you look speaks volumes of your character. If
you resemble one of those people it's up to you to change for the better.
Or... you can remain unemployed and try to win the lawsuit lottery by
suing people like this plastic surgery clinic. Good luck with that.
Be PROUD of your discriminatory practices! My momma always told me that when I do something, I should do it well....You must have been taught the same thing..............
So if the employer doesn't like those with green eyes, dark hair, dark skin, light skin, etc then they should be able to discriminate against them....Hitler would have been proud. As long as you employ less than 15 people, it doesn't matter anyway, because you're legally allowed to discrimnate.....
And I would also like to add that there are plenty of places like gyms that hire overweight people to show that others don't have to be shy about joining, or restaurants that hire overweight people, or beauty salons that hire all manner and difference of people in regards to their looks.............

Wow that is pretty harsh. I worked as a technical recruiter and have an HR degree. There is a big difference between "Bona Fide" which allows you to discriminate if it specifically relates to the work, like a male model for a male clothing line and what you are doing. We all have stereotypes but not hiring someone with a small tattoo on their wrist when they aced an entrance exam or are the smartest kid in the block, that is just wrong. Using practices like that should get you fired and if you worked for me you would be fired if I read this!
