Is clinic nursing a dirty job?

Published

Hello. I was curious as to whether clinic nursing is a dirty job. I have no issues with blood, but I'm wondering if any of you clinic nurses have to deal with other unpleasant things. I still believe nurses are amazing given all the responsibilities they have. Thank you for all you advice!

I understand. I know that to get what you want, you would need to make sacrifices. I'm beginning to realize that bodily fluids isn't a huge deal. Out of curiousity though, when there's body fluids where there's a doctor around, what does he/she do. Do he/she just leave it up to the nurse to clean up or is it a very teamwork oriented environment?

Oh, deers.

Doctors don't clean up.

I agree that it's hard to find work as a nurse too but comparing it to other career sectors, health care is definitely more in demand, especially since the Affordable Care Act has been introduced.

Don't drink the Koolaid. The demand is for experienced nurses not new grads and although there are regional shortages nationally there is a huge glut. The regions that are experiencing shortages aren't likely to have medical spas.

Even after they MADE the mess.

Although I have come across a few physicians who were freaking fantastic and helped with stuff like that. *fan for life*

The first doctor I witnessed in a pt's room.. he came in, uncovered both of the pt's stage 3/4 ulcers on his feet, and didn't even bother wrapping them back up. He left it for the nurse. Seriously?

After your third + GC culture you get a free round of antibiotics and condoms!

Who'm I kidding. To them, it is "free" anyway.

SNAP!

However, you must all still be happy that you're nurses, right? I'm not being sarcastic.

Like what!? :yeah: (Sorry, I didn't quote. I'm addressing this to Farawyn when you were saying what you find inside women's private areas other than tampons)

GOOD TO KNOW! After reading a lot of negative comments here about nursing saying how they would never have chosen nursing given what they know now, I thought it was pretty discouraging. Although, I do like it when people don't sugar coat things. It really helps. (Okay, I seriously thought I hit the quote button. This is addressed to WKShadowRN)

I kind of want to text you a picture I took of something we pulled out a few years ago.

What was it? Lol. I'm so curious about everything. Maybe I would enjoy dealing with body fluids after all.

Didn't I read here in a few threads that California has something like a >40% unemployment rate for new nurses? Scary.

Seems wrong since it's also the only state with mandated ratios.

I would suppose nurses could maybe do an internship. Wouldn't that help land a job and network with your supervisors?

Well theoretically yes but if there aren't any open positions you can network all you want and it still isn't going to land you a job.
