Hello. I was curious as to whether clinic nursing is a dirty job. I have no issues with blood, but I'm wondering if any of you clinic nurses have to deal with other unpleasant things. I still believe nurses are amazing given all the responsibilities they have. Thank you for all you advice!
Ok, a farm worker hurt on the job who needs to go to the ER ASAP, I will concede that's a plausible scenario where one might show up covered in hog renderings or hog poop or whatever.
But a clinic? There is no earthly reason I can imagine she's receiving patients at a clinic covered in pig-mess. That's insane.
Im wondering if "hog operation" is some euphemism I missed somehow. Like covered in oil and grease from working on your "hog" (motorcycle)? Still rather low-class to show up at a clinic covered in motor oil, but not as bad a literal "hog operation" mess.
Yes, I agree. I just know that agriculture students showed up at the college computer lab for help, still dressed in their farm clothes. Yuck!!!
Some people don't mind what they're wearing, no matter the social situation. Even if it is going to the clinic for their yearly work-up. I had a guy say he came in dressed from work & was going straight back, so why did it matter? His boss wasn't going to pay him to change clothes 2 more times! Yes, a farm hand, but Christmas trees.
I also had a man come in dressed in a 3 piece business suit & got offended when we ask he change into a gown. We had to drain a peri rectal abscess, so even explaining we would probably get something on his clothes didn't deter him. Yes, unfortunately he did leave with stains I doubt the dry cleaners could get out. He cuseed about it, but the MD said, "the nurses warned you!"
I just feel like it would be uncomfortable for woman to have their reproductive organs checked by a male, but I don't want to sound sexist saying that. I think it's great that we have men in traditionally women's professions and vice versa.
Why would you think women would be uncomfortable with a male OB/GYN? "Reproductive organs" are part of the body just like other organs.

Good point. Although, I heard from a male nurse that was doing clinical rotations in OB/GYN that the husbands weren't comfortable with him touching their wives, so some people aren't really open to it.
