Is there any chance that I can not be licensed even I pass the NCLEX?

Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

i took the nclex on last friday and found that my grade is "pass" on www.pearsonvue.com/nclex. i called new mexico board of nurse to ask how long i should wait to receive the official result and the license.

i was told that i have to wait for about two to four weeks. the board will review the report and then decide if i can be licensed. the lady told me that a pass won't guarantee a license.

i thought that a pass grade would guaranttee a license. so i was very happy to know that i passed! now i begin to worry about the license. i passed the nclex with 265 items. so my performance was not be very good. i am really concerned if the board will think i am not good enough and won't grant me the license.

is there anybody who ever heard that some people was not licensed even passed the nclex?

thank you so much for any information!!!!

:confused::cry::crying2:

I've never, ever heard of a situation where that happened. Don't quote me on this, but I don't think that the state board even sees the number of questions. You passed the NCLEX - now sit back and enjoy it for the next two to four weeks. :)

I am just guessing here, but they probably need to review that your school sent in all of your paper work, and any other admin stuff.

Pearson Vue does not give you a lic, they just admin the test and all they tell the state is Mary Mack passed.

Some states are quicker than others at posting the lic.

Congrats on passing!

I'm sure they are just doing an admin review to see that everything has been turned in and certified.

Congrats on passing!!!

You will get your license, provided that you have all other requirements met by them.

You passed the exam, and that is usually the final step in the process, you need to meet the other requirements before you are even given pemission to test.

The only time that one would possibly not get a license is if they have a criminal conviction and the board needs to meet and discuss it.

I've never heard of that. From my understanding, Pearson-Vue sends the board either a pass or fail result. They don't give specifics. Usually a state won't give Pearson-Vue the OK to send you an ATT if you don't meet their requirements. You passed the test, so you should be fine.

Unfortunately, those with a criminal record that get thru the initial screening, have to get final approval from the actual BON Directors before they can get a license issued in many states. So one may not always get a license, but this is the only type of case or situation.

And we have seen people post here about it. Just wanted you to be aware that it can happen and is never a can't happen.

In most instances, a license will be issued to those that see their name on the Pearson-Vue website.

Hmm...I've heard in the past that some states, Washington to be exact, didn't do background checks out of state. They only did it on in state criminal records. They were recently called on it and now they run everyone through the national data bank. Don't most, if not all, states run through the national data bank? Hence the requirement of finger printing?

Thank you all! Now I feel better. If they only need to do background check, then I don't think I will have any problem. I was only worried if they will review the report sent from Pearson and think I missed too many items according to their standards, though pearson gave me a pass grade.

Probably I have been over-nervous so far.

Thanks again!!

Nothing to do with that at all. They review each and every file on an individual basis and just because someone has something that shows up on a background check,, it does not automatically exclude them. The BON reviews each and every case on its own merit. Some may get thru the initial check and be permitted to sit for the exam, but the final issuance of the license is determined by the meeting of the Board for the BON and this can take months. And some are permitted to sit for the exam, but then upon additional review, they can decide not to issue a license.

Still not all states require finger-printing. NY actually does not either.

This is why things are not always 100%; you do not see this happen much, but the fact is that it can. So one can never say that if you pass the NCLEX, you automatically get a license issued. And that also is the case if it is a foreign nurse sitting for the NCLEX exam in CA, they do not issue a license without having a SSN#; so they would not get a license either as not all requirements are met.

Passing of the NCLEX exam alone does not always mean an instant license.

pearson-vue sends them the pass or no-pass results, same as what you get.

all people writing the exam get 50% correct and 50% incorrect. how they determine if one passes or not is the level at where they are getting the majority of the correct answers at. that simple.

if you seen that you have passed, then you will be issued a license, provided that you have a ssn# and no issues previous criminal history.

again,

congratulations!!!!

Ok, thanks for clearing that up. That would really be a shame to go through nursing school and the NCLEX and not be licensed. I guess if you have a questionable past, it is best to get approval from the local state board before starting nursing school.
