Is a BSN worthy? Please read , I really need an opinion!!

I have a question and would like all answers I can get !!! I did al my requierements for my RN I only need to taker my TEAS and I am ready to apply, however; this morning at work some rep. from the Chamberlain College of Nursing in Houston Texas went to my work and talked about their BSN program where you can graduate in 3 yrs with a BSN degree, its easy to get in but I did some research and is about $85k ... my question is ... is it worthy to spend $85k and get a BSN in nursing in 3 yrs or should I apply for my RN associates and do my BSN later on?? Please any information will help , also if you know something about Chamberlain college please let me know!

$85k is too much money to spend. I would find a more affordable program.

No, it isn't worth it to go $85k into debt for the equivalent to a Devry nursing degree when there are a plethora of cheaper BSN programs in the area that will cost a quarter of that. AND take two years or less to complete.

The only way it might be worth it is if you can't actually get in anywhere else.

Look at a state school. The BSN is well worth it, but not for $85k. If you have all your pre reqs complete, you could try to apply to a state school BSN program that requires only 2 years of upper level nursing courses.

No, $85,000 is too much. You will be paying that back forever and those private schools like to loan money at very high interest rates to boot. I would look into pretty much anything else. If you go, you will get paid a bit more per hour than the ADN but you'll be giving most of it back to that college. By the time you pay it off all those people who got their ADN will most likely have gotten their BSN and be earning the same as you anyway.

85k with a scholarship could get you a law degree. The average debt for a student with a BS or BA is 25k. So that's ridiculously high. Also, is this one of those online schools? Because they have a huge default rate. It's about half. Which means their grads are not finding employment. Employers want someone who went to actual classes at a brick and mortar school. I have 100k in debt from my law degree, and I'm starting classes at a local cc for their RN program next spring. I will be on IBR for the next 20 years, but I have a job now that I can actually use to save my money for my classes.

Bottom line, do not pay this much for a Bachelor's, and do not trust someone who comes to your workplace, and tells you about a school program. A good school lets you go to them. A bad one has to recruit people and soak them for as much money as they can.

Yes, get the BSN, and get it right from the git-go and get it over and done with. Lots of people think they'll get an associate's degree and then work for the money and get the BSN later, one way or another. Many don't. The first few years of practice are enough learning and work without trying to cram more college classes into your work schedule.

NO, run, do not walk, away from DeVry/Chamberlain and their ilk. Go to a state college or university. You can thank us later. And you WILL thank us later.

I think you should go for the BSN but NOT for 85K! Look at other programs in your area, many State colleges have BSN programs for less $$$ and are about 2 years in length. They are a little competitive GPA sometimes but it's worth fighting to get into one of those programs rather than shelling out $85k!
