IRSC Fall 2014 Hopefuls!

Hey everyone! I know this is super early to be talking about the fall semester but I just got my denial letter for the Spring 2014 semester so I wanted to make this group for anyone that's applying or didn't make it in like me. I got a 109 score on my NLN exam which makes my total points for program 130. I took A&P I & Micro which accounts for my points. I would like to retake the NLN in 6 months & hopefully I can do much better. I'm currently enrolled in A&P II & plan on just studying my butt off for the nln in the process. Classes I have left before I'm done with all my "pre-requisites" are A&P II (which I'm currently in), Chemistry, and Nutrition. (which I plan on taking those in spring/summer). Maybe we can get a study group together eventually if anyone is interested! Best of luck to everyone! :)

I was surprised too at much physics there was on the test. I am also trying not to get myself too worked up about whether I will get in this time but it sure would be nice ;-). Can't wait to know one way or the other. The wait is killing me.

Hello all! I am actually currently enrolled in the nursing program and wanted to give some tips for the NLN. For math I suggest studying that a lot if you are not strong in solving fraction, percentages, or division. There were a lot of math questions for me and that is what hurt me the most. Also for verbal try to understand prefixes and suffixes. It is better to try to break down the word or supplement the choice of answers back into the sentence and see which one makes the most sense to you. I also encourage bringing your own earplugs to the test because you have to take it in a big computer room with a bunch of other students who are not even taking the NLN. The facilitators do provide their own earplugs but they are horrible. Do not be scared to take it! It truly is not as scary as it seems. Definitely try to do as many practice tests as you can at home, and time yourself! I hope all of you do well and get in! ;)

annasmum, what was your score?! I'm beyond nervous.

brittany743, thanks for the advice! I will definitely be using it for the last few days I have to study.

Try to get there early on your testing day a lot of people like to take it closer to the end!

Brittany743, It's because we're all scared!!! Thanks so much! How are you liking the program?

How is it that I can get through my college algebra class like it's nothing, but miss a bunch of the math questions in the prep book?! They should be so easy!!!

It's because we all haven't done it in a while, atleast I hadn't.

I was a little sad as on all the practice tests I managed to get 85-90% correct and in the actual I managed to get a 138. I did really well on the math, pretty good on science but struggled with the language part. Some of the words I totally guessed. Reckon nerves got the better of me. My overall score is 166 now which I suppose makes it tight if the applicant pool is strong.

Chuck, it is crazy the things they have in the math section. Mixed fractions, really?! I have not used those since I started college math classes! Definitely did not think I would have to brush up much on math.

annasmum, You should be proud of your score! You have a good chance of getting in, last semester alternates were in the 150's and some of them eventually made it into the program. The math I can practice but the language is also what has me terrified!

Britanni22 I basically just had enough in the end and figured to just get it over and done with as I was stressing out and knew there is no way I can really prepare for the language section. I remember some of the reading comprehension was really confusing too. They had excerpts of medically based information and questions on it. I have taken pathology in the past, and some of the answers that were given did not make sense as they were technically incorrect. So it really threw me, but oh well just have to wait and see now. If you do take it soon - Good Luck!

Nice job gettin a 138 Anna, that's a really good score! They say 160's is usually a definite acceptance letter.

I do know what you mean britt, when are you taking the NLN?

Okay guys! I'm taking my NLN Tuesday and I'm super nervous!! I hope it will not be too busy! I will definitely focus on the physics part from now on. Good luck to everyone!! :D We're so close to the deadline!
