Hi everyone! I just thought I'd start the new State forums off with an introduction thread. Please feel free to reply to this thread if you wish. Otherwise, feel free to start a new topic if you wish to discuss other topics that are local or state related. Enjoy!

Hi Y'all,
I'm new to this board although I've been receiving allnurse newsletters for quite some time now. I'm an LVN in a long term care center and loving every minute of it. LTC is an area that more new nurses should take a look at. It may not be as glamorous as hospital nursing but, it really is very rewarding.

HOWDY TEXAS NURSES,
I work in Plano, TX. I work on a Renal/Neuro Step-Down Unit.
We have just started the bar-code-medication delivery system.
Is anyone else using this yet? Love to hear what you think about
this new system.

Hello fellow Texas nurses!
I work in the tele-triage/transfer office so don't currently give meds but our facility has had BCMA for over a year. I know they have had some things to work out with the system but overall, if it is used correctly, the chances for medication error are almost nil.

Hi everyone! I just discovered this site earlier tonight. Looks interesting so far. I have been an RN since '81 and have worked in ICU all but about 6 months of that time. I live in the Killeen area but work (and play) in Austin.
There are still new things cropping up from time to time. The overall patient quality has dramatically changed over the years.
I'm interested in the bar-code med system that a couple of you have mentioned. I haven't seen that as yet. The accudose (pyxis, etc) syetm was supposed to decrease errors but it's only as accurate as the pharmacy staff that stocks it.
Would someone mind explaining the bar-code thing?
Thanks, PC

Hi, I will be immigrating from Pakistan in a couple of months and my agency has offered me job in San Antonio, hostpital not know yet. I wonder if anyone of you could give me some advice and tell me more about this place as I have never been to the US and everything would be new including nursing practice.
Appreicate your advice.
Look up San Antonio on the internet. Lots of information there. It's an historical city in Texas' plight for freedom. The Alamo is still there as are many missions to see. The city is very large but the road systems are fairly adequate. The populations seems predominately hispanic but I haven't recently looked up the demographic breakdown. There as some "bad" areas of town as there are in most large cities. There are also nice areas and to the west of the city, there are lots of areas to explore in the "Hill Country."
There are a number of large hospitals in San Antonio. They just happen to be the liver transplant capitol in this area.
Austin is about an hour- an hour and a half north of San Antonio and there's lots to do there also.
Will you have to take the Texas State Board to obtain a license here? If you need licensure information.....check out the following web site: http://www.bne.state.tx.us/
Let me know if I can assist you in finding out more info. That's all I can think of off the top of my head. Best wishes...
